Last two years Coventry lost £7m and £5m

They had debt of around £60m. New owner Doug King essentially made the club debt free.

So how do we progress then? The only way to do that is to stagger their leaving not sell the whole of our defence and an experienced striker.
No amount of money beyond silly ( 10 million plus that would allow us to buy another experienced league1 defender and have loads over) should tempt us, we've a league to win!

Unfortunately that’s the downside of our recruitment policy.
Seen a few comments about replacing people like Mads as if they are expecting a ready made replacement.
The reality is when someone leaves nearly always there will be some regression as the person stepping in won’t be as good as the person they replace. They may go onto be better but at that point it’s not likely.
The key is as you say to stagger and limit the size of step back over time

You’re right. Never going to replace the likes of Mads and Kitching with players that are as good but I expect them to be good enough for the position we’re currently in. Mads and Kitching are too good for League 1 but looking at non league isn’t going to work. I think Lopata will make the step up based on the early signs but he wasn’t far off Sheff United first team squad a few years back. He’s slightly different to me signing players with no EFL pedigree.

This window will seriously hurt us. There’s no smoke without fire regarding Herbie Kane and Williams will be gone. Norwich have just lost Max Aarons and they were keen on Williams at one point. We could potentially lose another three by the end of August. That’s an awful amount of the last year’s successful team being ripped apart. For every Pinnock, Roberts and potentially Lopata, there’s Mike Phenix, Stefan Payne and Kayden Jackson.

We've broken records with our first game and none of this has happened yet. Chill.

Would be surprised and disappointed if Williams went TBH.
Not because I don’t expect him to go I understand that’s our model but because Collins when discussing him made a big thing about how important he was to the team and how it played with him as a centre half but would occasionally be needed as cover.
It definitely came across to me as he was a big part of Collins plans this season

In an ideal world i couldn't agree more' but its just how it is for Barnsley fc' i've criticised the club like most other people but the truth is if a player doesn't want to be here he's not going to give 100%' the thing the club HAS to do is be true to their word and invest the fees into the team then the whole conveyer belt can start again' the trials and tribulations of being a Barnsley fan' it won't change' you just hope that the people in charge now are strong enough to hold out for what our players are worth.

The common factor for other clubs wanting our players is that the team is doing well so I think that we will always lose players in clusters and like you say it's a case of then waiting for the next batch to progress, maybe if we could use some of the money to sign a couple of experienced players or quality loans to limit the step back.

Really hope we keep hold of him, a good defender and chips in with a few goals, if he does go then let's hope this French lad hits the ground running, I do think players are swayed by there team mates, for example kitchen will probably double is wages at least, other players/ Kane/ Williams etc sat there thinking " I want some of that" there is very little loyalty, 4 year contracts don't mean loyalty it means the club hold the cards in relation to a fee if a player is sold

Dike 'underwhelmed' several upon his arrival.

When Brittain arrived, people moaned that we'd waited for him signing a new deal before buying him.

Morris' goalscoring record was scrutinised prior to his debut.

Michael Sollbauer's biggest crime was being Austrian.

Bobby Thomas was w@nk because the Bristol Rovers fans said he was.

Connell's main previous experience was at "Sunday league level".

Just a few comments from memory.

This was always going to happen after last year. We did well with a young squad but achieved nothing came unstuck at the final hurdle. Now the sharks come circling.

I disagree on the whole player doesn't want to be here stand. Think it's a lazy cliche. Players will try because they want to be seen as good, they want to win games, they want to support their friends and teammates and have fans applaud them.

At this level you can sell your gran and get away with it. So what if we sell Cole, Kitching, Williams and Kane. They will be replaced and guess what we'll still finish nearer the top than the bottom.

True. But getting away with it to me means gaining promotion and we won't be doing that without Kitching or Kane. Plus if by some miracle we did get promoted, how would we fare in the Championship?

Then the modus operandi has worked and you sign players according to the slightly increased budget.

But we can't afford to pay championship wages which means the current team would come straight back down, plus we'd lose any who showed any promise in the Championship!
