Russell has done well in his absence, but will probably be the fall guy.

I think Russell has some attributes but he really went missing in the last half hour. Was so slow to react and couldn’t cover ground getting back.
He’d definitely be the one making way as far as I’m concerned. Needs to sharpen up.

    Did you watch todays game?

He was ok last week but wasn’t today, too slow, too ponderous, never seems to be in the right place and doesn’t react quick enough to correct his position.

Late on when he received the ball, had a tonne of space in front of him, and instead of running full pelt into it, he decided to hold on to it and try block off the player trying to catch up. Hope you know what I'm on about because I was furious with him

I just don’t think he is fit/ sharp enough. Seems to take ages to do things. I think there is a decent player there though. He just needs to liven up.

I agree. Some of his first touch passing is great when he's on it. But looks so slow to react at times, especially defensively. I will say Herbie did my head in a bit today too, always stopping and waving for a foul and then realising we're not getting one so he's playing catch up too

Seems harsh to single him out when our entire midfield seemed non existent for a lot of the game both defensively and offensively.
I think Russell will be a good player for us if he gets the patience that Mowatt, kane and Styles were given.

A footballer...but likes it at his pace ....which is slow. Needs 40% more umph in his application...but the kid can play, I just feel he's good when you are two up with 15 to go and need to protect a lead rather than an impact player.
Compare him to Styles who gets on the ball and gets forward can run at players and is just a more positive player.

Well it doesn't dose it.. I saw we kept the ball to good afect yesterday in mid-field and had one shot all game. We did lots of neat little passes but got nowhere, we went sideways and back. You can have the best midfield all you want but if you're wide open at the back and not creating much up top, then you ain't going nowhere.
Fair way off a top six side for me.

The French lad, if he gets clearance this side of Christmas, might sort us out at the back. It would release JW to his best position. Also need someone stronger up front to hold the ball up and give opposition defenders a hard time.
All that said, we’ll probably be flogging Kitching and Styles by the end of August anyway.
Team might look completely different/worse by then.
