He did back then. But mads has played thousands of minutes compared to diaby and come on leaps and bounds.

It feels massively uncharitable, but I'd love him to fall to pieces at Swansea.

Maybe once he gets sacked from there he'll be able to convince another league 1 club that he's with them for the long haul. But really, this time. Honest - pinky promise. Scout's honour.

The Swansea fans seem convinced he's making up every excuse and blaming everyone but himself. Doesnt seem to be the Duff I remember but I think he's feeling massive pressure, he's lost the loyalty card and needs to prove he can come in and do the business straight away, at the very least not make the team worse

Don't really remember him blaming himself much when he was manager here. Not sure whether he did at Cheltenham. Tbf, managers don't tend to blame themselves on the whole.

I thought he took responsibility when we played badly (Morecambe away I remember as a particularly good example of this) and praised the players when we did well. I don't think Duff was perfect. IMHO his use of substitutes was generally dreadful. And the 'long haul' rhetoric was simply untrue. But his managerial qualities, and how he communicated these during interviews, were first class. I've never seen a more motivated and hard working Barnsley team.

Big val created the most mental & hard working team I’ve ever seen.

As Jay said, it's not about blaming the self but taking responsibility; some managers do this and some don't. On the very limited views I've seen on it, sounds like MLH isn't taking responsibility at Swansea but is blaming the former manager and his system. This is flawed imo because the old manager is gone, and Duff is in, and he's had a full pre-season. He's also in it for the long haul, I'm sure he wants to build something long term - and complete the project etc etc.

Agreed. I was no fan of how his brand of football ended up after teams worked us out but the work rate and energy was unbelievable. What was equally gobsmacking was how Schopp managed to leech that attitude and fitness out of us in the space of a couple of months.

What a pity Oakwell couldn't get behind Val's team, it would have been a mental matchday experience
