Great start to the season. Before I'm attacked I didn't go overboard last week and I won't go "underboard" this week.
Definitely, it’s a decent start for sure. Sounds like we got away lucky today though from people I know who were there. The lack of options from the bench were an embarrassment and Collins alluded to that afterwards by sounds.
Oh today was a fantastic point, make no mistake. We will play better this season and lose easily, and I reckon Bristol Rovers will be comfortably top half so a point away to such sides is always welcome. We were bloody awful though.
The bench looked weak but let's bear in mind we have one probably to be 1st 11 centre half, one first choice full back and three quality midfielders injured or suspended. That's five absentees.
Yes but when Connell,Phillips,McCarthy,Cundy etc the squad and bench will be a lot stronger.I don't think its feasable to sign a player because someones injured or ill.Like Collins said the squad will be reassessed after the Oxford match.
Our manager talks about performance rather than points. Which enables a proper perspective to be applied, especially at this early stage of the season. Performance comes second to points. I agree with him. I don't mind us losing. I mind us performing like we did today. But not so much this early in the season. When we're good, even if we lose, I'll say it. As I often have. Today we were tosh for three quarters of the game. It's almost beyond opinion. We should have lost. I don't think our coach has been fooled by the opening day score line. 4 points is a good start though. Cos it should have been 3.
This, with bells on. I’ve seen us lose many a game playing far better than today. Rovers were tipped to do well this season - and you can see why.
I can be a moaning sod at times but I'm happy with our start. Still think we need to bring another striker in but 4 points from 2 is a solid start.
I agree, good start. Bristol Rovers looked great today, just couldn't score. Marquis could have had at least 3 or 4 minimum. I actually think Port Vale will do well too - a lot of their fans were cheesed off that their new signings weren't all starting, can see why. Be surprised if Port Vale aren't at least around 10th-14th and be even more surprised if Bristol Rovers don't at least challenge for that 6th spot
Take a point away. Better than a kick in bo llocks. I don't buy this It's o.k because so and so will finish projected X,Y,Z position. I couldn't give two f cuks where Bristol Rovers finish. It's about where Barnsley finish.
Disappointed with the result conceding late but we have half of team. We will be fine and destroy teams at full strength
Would take another 4 pts from these next two games with the players available at the minute but we desperately need more additions before the window shuts .
Let's see how we fair this week against stronger opposition. Tbh.. Port Vale home Brizzle Rovers away, you'd expect to get 4points. If we'd got any aspirations of being anywhere near the play off spots.
Last season we drew at home to Port Vale and away to Bristol Rovers earning 2 points. This season we have 4 points from those fixtures.
I wouldn't say they looked great watching from the stands mate. Organised, well set up, big side (minus Thomas) and physical, yeh, but not great. They were very ineffectual in the final third, looked shaky at the back (on the very few occasions we broke through into their box), and at times couldn't get the ball off us, especially in the first half. I think they will finish mid-table comfortably, but can't see them challenging. We just always seem to struggle at the Mem - we scored early and then took our foot off the (ahem).. gas. Very disappointing second half, but as happened last season, they were delighted with a hard-earned point and should have won but didn't; we were disappointed with the draw because we know we're better than that.
