Hi, if you are interested in listening this is my second show with DJ / promoter Chico Malo. It includes a 40 minute chat with Chico who recalls the first wave of punk around the West Yorkshire region around this time, including the Sex Pistols last gig inn the UK on Chriistmas Day 1977 at Ivanoe's Nightclub, Huddersfield, Rock Against Racism & much more. All tracks are selected by the man himself.
It was a lot of fun to do this one. Got the third show in the bag with Tony Davidson of TJM Studios / Records, focusing on the Manchester punk / post punk scene. He turned down managing Warsaw / Joy Division & suggested Rob Gretton do the job!
Really enjoyed that .. thanks Mark. Great facts all portrayed in a very unpretentious way by both of you. Please post your next one when possible. Gretton and Wilson were, in my opinion, true icons of the Manchester 70’s and 80’s music scene
Very much enjoyed that, interesting music selection and some tunes I'd not heard before - Emergency by 999 sounded good. The Pop Group sounded awesome. Warm Leatherette was a JG Ballard reference of course and a few bands at the time wrote songs inspired by his books, like Joy Division, Tubeway Army, John Foxx, Siouxsie and the Banshees that I can think of. Looking forward to part 3 and hopefully some other tunes I've not heard.
Joy Division ( or Curtis ) wrote Atrocity Exhibition referring to Ballard’s story but oddly , he didn’t read it until after writing the track. A bit of totally uninteresting info… sorry
