Ben Stokes has come out of ODI retirement and is in the squad in place of Harry Brook. Can't say I agree with this. Edit: Also it's misleading to class him in this case as an all-rounder, as he is unable to bowl, and is joining as a specialist batsman. The squad is stronger with Stokes in it. If you wanted to get Brooks in the squad Livingstone would probably be the fall guy but then he bowls spin which might be useful in India.
Brook will play 150 ODI games for England, he plays all 3 formats and needs resting / rotating as and when
ridiculous innit, shades of Moeen in the test. What does it say to the youngsters when they keep whistling up crocks from retirees. Stokes is physically not even reliable these days.
I think the 2 squads chosen today are for the New Zealand ODI and T20 matches. Brook is in the T20 squad but not the ODI squad for these games. The World Cup squads won’t be chosen for a while yet … as far as I know ? Sorry if I’m wrong
he isn’t dropped from the World Cup although I think I’ve read the 15 picked are possibly the 15 for the World Cup. If that’s the case I agree he should be in this squad edit: indeed it appears to have been a decision of 2 from Malan/brook and duckett. Brook has missed out
Our World Cup squad has to be submitted by 5th September and can be altered up to 28 Sept. However, Luke Wright has confirmed that the two 15 man squads chosen today, will be the same as the World Cup ones. We’ve 10 games before 28th September so there’s a strong chance of injuries etc
I don't think anybody in this squad will be involved in the Ireland ODIs given their proximity to the first world cup match.
