Dunno here’s a picture of mine from when I was a kid but bare in mind it’s a kids one that was bought from the club shop and not a player issue

the badges/ material and Umbro tag look right - but the sponsor logo does look different - maybe that was added after ?

That team should have made it to the First Division, no doubt. With a couple of quality additions I reckon they would have stayed there as well, this being a time before obscene amounts of money started being chucked around.

My Dad says that team would have stayed up had it got to the top flight.

If you look at sponsor the design is different

Wish I was going to watch that team tomorrow. They might not have won promotion to the top flight but without doubt the best Reds team in my lifetime.

Weren’t we 2-0 up at half time at Grimsby over Easter? Was convinced then that we had a serious chance of going up. Second half saw Grimsby come back and win 3-2 before we then lost at home to Leicester.
The dropped points over Easter cost us and we finished about fifth I think, before the days of the playoffs.
    That’s if I’ve remembered it right….

It must be me, then. Haysleden were our sponsors that season and we used that Oakwell motif as our shirt badge.

Sounds about right, without looking it up. We certainly weren’t far away. In fact, had we beaten Norwich towards the end of the season those points would have taken us above them, and promoted.

Never realised that about the Norwich game but you’re right.

Ah, right. Sorry, mate. I thought you meant we had different sponsors that season.

Must have been absolutely gutting. It's amazing nothing more has been made of such a near miss.

I’ve followed the Reds for the best part of 50 years and Hunters ‘81 team was the best I’ve ever seen. Played without fear and went in to every game with a belief that they could/would win.

Oh, to roll back the years…
