On the French lad being thrown in "we wanted to bring him inti the side because he's played 45 minutes pre season" You played him BECAUSE he's only played 45 minutes in a pre season friendly? Jesus Christ mate. He was *****. Nowhere near up to the speed of English football and should never be starting until he's been brought on as sub a few times to get up to speed. However perhaps if you hadn't cancelled our friendlies because you preferred training sessions then our players wouldn't be playing catch up throughout August
Always thought this would be a big ask....For a foreign player to come straight in and slot straight in....different culture etc etc....bid stretch
De Zeeuw and Solbauer managed it. Granted, they were quite a bit more experienced. Hmmm, I think I may have hit upon something here.
Collins knows how bad our defence is, like everyone else.. so i think he took a punt on the french lad and half n hour was enough
To be fair mate his options are so limited. I have an issue with those off the field and what they've allowed to happen over the summer but can't believe people are turning on Collins so soon. Give him time. Even I've said 10-12 games before I start to properly assess his team selections / tactical set ups.
Let’s be honest. He’s probably come from a standard of football that you put the same squad and formation out week after week. Was always going to be harsh learning curve here. Wrong appointment but we never learn.
Despite the errors I saw enough in him to suggest there’s a player there. For starters he’s a very good passer. He reminded me a bit of early Mads
We need a organiser a head it kick experienced centre half. Lots sensible suggestions on an other thread maybe Flint I know he's not the player he was but a proper sh#thouse who knows the game.
It was certainly a debut to forget but hopefully one he’ll bounce back from. Not sure I agree with the OP about the pre-season stuff though, didn’t he only sign for us a few days before the season started? I am really pinning all my hopes on Luca slotting straight back in the side in front of the defence to hopefully stop some of the pressure on them. Clearly they aren’t blameless, particularly Kitching who has probably had his 2 worst games for us, but opposition are cutting through our midfield and wingbacks like they aren’t even there. Most of the time the wingbacks aren’t actually there to be fair.
Yeah, he certainly would provide some experience. If we do sign another centre back I can see it being someone on loan so that would likely be a younger player from a prem/championship side.
He really wasn’t. Kitching was woeful but he hadn’t given a penalty away (which he should have been booked for), got booked for an awful tackle just after, dragged a lad back and only got away with being sent off as the ref inexplicably decided it wasn’t a foul all in under 25 minutes. I was surprised it took as long for Collins to drag him off, every time they attacked towards him he looked like giving a foul away and would definitely have been red carded. We were lucky he wasn’t sent off in the time he was on, and his defending whilst still on looked rash and every bit as off the pace as Kitching. None of the back three covered themselves in glory yesterday. But as mentioned above, he looks like he can see a pass and there’s something there, Sollbauer was awful first game - but changed our season. Maybe Mael can - but I think we need some experience, nous and leadership at the back to help them.
