Is the official line that we wait until the away coaches have left before releasing cars from the 'home' car park?
And the grievance is that the club should be more concerned with home fans than away fans?

Has anyone who walks home down Grove Street towards Pontefract Road never seen a collision between a pedestrian and a car leaving the car park? I've seen hundreds of near misses over the years, dozens of actual impacts - most not serious but I've seen a few where people were hurt. Many years ago someone ran over my mate's foot, the driver realised what he had done and stopped, but stopped with the his wheel still on top of his foot so he was pinned to the ground. I've lost count of how many times I have personally had to put my hands on the bonnet of a car as they've pulled out on me as I'm crossing the exit.

If you sit in the East Stand, when you leave, you have to walk through the car park. There is no avoiding it. You can avoid it if you sit in the Ponte End or West Stand, but if you're heading down Grove Street you will pass the exits from the car park, in a throng of people packed together.

Pedestrians and cars using the same space is never a good idea. Under the conditions of thousands of people leaving a venue it is so dangerous.

The 'waiting until the away coaches have departed' is just some time until the streets have cleared. It's not putting away fans first, it's putting our fans first, our fans who walk. "We always used to do it." Yes, you did, and pedestrians used to get hit by cars. I've personally seen it and experienced it many, many times. How the situation carried on so long, I'll never know. But it appears we don't want people being run over any more. I think that's a good thing.

    Yes and no.

Firstly, east stand fans shouldn't have to walk through the carpark, or at least shouldn't have to walk between cars. There are specific gates that could be used to allow safe passage for pedestrians which wouldn't have them walking between cars, for example why walk between parked cars to go out of the bottom corner gate when there is one at the top? Clear instructions and rules would alleviate this.

The other thing is that nobody has a problem with waiting for home fans to vacate the area which is what has happened for quite a few years now. The cars were kept stationary until the flow of pedestrians through the carpark and down grove Street had dried up. It worked completely.
The new rule isn't to wait for those though, it's to wait an additional half an hour while home fans have long since left the area. The carpark is locked until ALL away fans have returned to their coaches, been checked on and driven through the supposedly closed off beevor court (it seems those pesky terrorists only attack home fans) and then driven back along the front of the ground round Pontefract road and towards the town centre. This causes wait times of up to an hour.

In the years I've used the carpark and years before it as a pedestrian I would say that the near misses and indeed bumps have happened from cars illegally parked on grove Street itself or cars that have parked on Pontefract road who all exit immediately with pedestrians in the roads, I've never seen a near miss from a vehicle actually parked in the official carpark itself with the exception of the gate with the burger van but I'd argue that's actually because of piss poor positioning of a catering vehicle straight across the exit of a carpark. Can't believe that's been allowed to stay there so long with how dangerous it is.

I was thinking more of the council than the club. I would imagine there are rules that allow the council to stop them operating in an unsafe position if they wanted to

All is required is pedestrian walkways separated from traffic routes with clearly controlled crossing points where the two meet. LOLLYPOP MAN.

You can't have thousands of people walking where there is a potential of moving cars.

Closing the car park is the only option as unfortunately the problem is people will do what they want not what is sensible or put in place for their safety

Fans who are not parked in the carpark should not walk through the carpark. Lock the pedestrian gates in the carpark aswell and direct fans towards Beevor Court, Grove Street, Belgrave Road and just walk on footpaths not the middle of the road.
Delay cars for 15 minutes to let the majority clear away then everyone left walk on the footpath like we do everyday of our lives except before and after a match.
The set up of the traffic management away from the ground, closing access under the bridge on to Harbour Hills is the daftest decision ever and the traffic lights how they are programmed causes more hold ups.

Anyway shut the carpark, lose supporters blame the club because people are generally selfish or thick.

Given the away coaches leave via Beevor Court, they could alleviate a hell of a lot of the east stand pedestrian exits through the car park by letting people access ponty rd that way…

It’s obviously only an emergency rendezvous point until the coaches need to leave - which is apparently at a different amount of time post-game every week….

Makes you consider if it is really an emergency rendezvous point at all…

The cones on ponty rd were always a waste of time in the main, people just move them, though generally the ones further down, well beyond Beevor court and round the corner towards Hoyle mill.

This season people are parking from as soon as the double yellows end which is much closer and the road narrower, just past the ‘new’ houses, about where the drive up to the Kia garage is.

I’ll admit including myself on Saturday as I came down Oakwell lane and turned right rather than come up from Hoyle Mill, and someone had obviously parked and moved as there was a nice space between two other already parked cars - it doesn’t seem ideal that cars are there - but there are no restrictions, it isn’t being coned, so it appears that they are encouraging more street parking. Or at least condoning it. When it was coned I’d park further towards the speed camera or beyond at the country park.

If form carries on as it is I suspect there’ll be less pressure on parking and exits anyway but until they return the restrictions, people will park where it is permitted. Port vale and Peterborough I’d parked further up the road as normal with the kids, past the old brewery and up towards the industrial estates - we walked past dozens, probably hundreds of cars parked much closer, with loads more space with no yellow lines or cones, people parking up there as we walked.

Super Tyke you say nobody's got a problem with letting the home fans clear that's simply not true the 10 minute rule from last season was hit and miss. When it wasn't implemented ie no stewards with cones it was a free for all most if not all cars just leaving. As I've said in a previous thread we have a ground in a residential area with limited access if you have mobility problems and need to use the car park or choose to the down side is you have to wait,if your not you have a decent walk to your car. Their isn't a alternative unless we move and go to soulless box next to the M1.

Can you imagine if Tesco or Cineworld for eg. receiving any complaints about the car park just threatened to close it!?

Most clubs don’t even have a car park anywhere near the stadium. Clearly these car ******** have never been to Wolves or Arsenal away.. :)
