Depends on who goes out. McAfee may be internet security for Styles, or Kane I guess. Getting Luca back playing & Cundy / McCarthy would give us options at the back. Guesswork, but I think there will be more business. Hoping a week on the training ground with what we have got, which is a pretty good squad, but unbalanced without Luca we can start to turn the corner & put in a good performance at Wigan, who look to be on fire. We often play better with this kind of opposition, so who knows... Was a pretty disjointed pre season, followed by a 7-0 thrashing of a team that played us off the park for 20 minutes or so, then 3 very patchy performances we definitely only deserved one point from. Jury is out. Not doom & gloom yet though. A couple of wins & we are back in the race. Luca, come back please. Hope you are on the mend. The driving force in the team.
Just my opinion, Baz, but I think there'll be a couple in and a couple out. With players coming back from illness & injury, I'll be surprised if there's much more to crop up before 11PM next Friday.
The part that annoys me is we need a central midfielder, centre back and a striker. In League 1 you want to be paying about 500k for a decent player. We haven't got £1.5 million to buy three players when a cash injection on the playing side is really needed.
Or you can get free agents who are proven in the EFL, like we did with Norwood and Cadden. Problem is we've started recruiting from alehouse leagues
If we are stuck with the possibilities of loanees while McCarthy and Cundy get fit again, we could do worse than tap up West Bromwich Albion for Caleb Taylor. Played pretty much a full league one season last year for Cheltenham Town and did not look out of his depth. Still young and a long way from breaking into the Baggies first team. I think that they will want to loan him out again this season and, if there are no takers from the Championship, which is not very likely, we could be in with a shout. Very tall and wins everything in the air. Good in the tackle as well.
