Not only has Obbi Oulare started a game for his current club, he’s gone and scored the opening goal in the ninth minute! Hope we have a sell on clause!
I wonder what his odds were for first goalscorer? Probably around 150/1 if you had used a bookies in tarn.
Just looked at the league his team (Lierse) play in. Proximus league B. It has the most Bizzare promotion criteria re where you finish. ----------------- First of all, having only 8 teams in the league ensures that all the teams face each other 4 times (at least). This means a lot of unatractive fixtures against the same opponents over and over and over again. I can't count how many times I've seen my team face Westerlo these past seasons. Having only 8 teams also means there is only one promotion spot available to the big boys. That may seem reasonable, but it ain't as simple as finishing first and getting promoted, not in Belgium. The league is in fact divided into two 14 game periods. At the end the two 'champions' of these periods battle it out in a home and away final for the only promotion spot. So technically, the team finishing first overall after 28 game weeks can be left out with no chance of promotion whatsoever if they don't finish top of one of the periods. This happened in 2017 with Lierse, and again this season with Virton. Being the best overall isn't rewarded, which makes getting promoted more about momentum and may even seem a lottery at times. You can see why getting out of this league is a nightmare for most teams, and staying in it is one for the supporters. And I haven't even talked about the relegation play-offs yet where the two worst teams face each other up to 9! times total in one season. ------------------------ I'm not sure what happens if the same team finishes top in both periods. (Automatically promoted I assume as they'd finish top overall anyway.)
Always knew that lad would come good once he put a sticky plaster on his poorly finger lol. Let's get him back as Norwood's replacement.
