A ludicrous decision this early in the season, but it does show how seriously they were thinking of promotion this time. Was it all beginners luck with Isted, and does this also show why Alfie May has never been poached from Cheltenham before.
Wow. That's fairly mind boggling. I wonder if there's any truth in the rumour that Isted was Oakwell-bound until Duff left but was worried a new manager wouldn't rate him and he'd lose his place. If so, he'll be thrilled he's warmed the bench at Charlton and then the manager who brought him in is sacked 3 weeks into the season and a few hours after his first league start! Doesn't affect us a great deal as it turns out. On early impressions, Liam Roberts is one of the best keepers in the division, though of course, we don't have him on a permanent contract.
From what I’ve seen in the 3 home league games Roberts is comfortably the best keeper out of Collins, Isted and himself.
They did very well the back end of last season. Couple of signings I expected em to start where they left off.. But as we know life/sport doesn't work like that. Or all the bookies would be out of business. I think they've got new (impatient) owners wanting a return on their buck.
Honestly fancied them pushing top two this year with the backing Holden has had. If they bring in someone who knows how to get the best out of that squad, I think they’ll be up there still. Some underwhelming names been linked though…
Too early to say if Roberts is better than Collins but thrilled with the start he's made and happy that he's showing his experience, we desperately need an older wider head out there on the pitch.
Isted hates a change of head coach, as he doesn't seem to rate his ability enough, so he has probably already handed in a transfer request.
That’s exactly the case knew he’d play for duff and wasn’t sure he’d start over Brad under new man then they both left and we signed best keeper in the league so alls well that ends well
I didn't see the hype around Charlton pre-season. I thought they'd improve this season, but still would only be in or around the play-offs. They still could like, but this is a strange decision, a week before the transfer window closes. They've faced similar opponents to us so far, and had worse results, which tells you all you need to know about their start.
ridiculous. makes you wonder how the interview process for the next man will go... "we'd like to offer you the role, but you'll be sacked within 5 games if you don't win them"
