They think they have more fans than City and Newcastle. Both these sides regularly play in front of crowds that outstrip the number of fans they took to Wembley. Infact when they played Newcastle in the cup last season large areas of the home ends were empty.
I think you’d have to compare attendances when they were in the Championship, but Newcastle outnumber Wednesday fans 2/1 at most games.
If they had owners who bought them, built them a new 50,000 stadium, and knocked a few hundred off the stupid season ticket prices, they would come close to filling it.
They base their fan base on a one off game at Wembley, where half of them couldn't give a **** about the score. Imagine if every club thought like that? Swindon wondering where their 31,000 supporters have gone... ******* Muppets.
Deluded. Newcastle have thousands on waiting lists for Season tickets. 50k people in ballots for match day tickets every game. Wednesday not even close and never will be even if they got to the prem
Sheffield Wednesday average attendance 24k Sheffield United average attendance 27k You could argue one is in the premier league and the other is in the championship.. but the one in the championship has a capacity of 39k compared to the premier league team with 31k
Newcastle In the championship had average of 51k still... and where as Sheffield Wednesday, like I said only could average 24k.
They've not averaged over 30k since 1968. Is it all a big myth, Pigs and big crowds? Why does anyone think they have great support?
They get 20,000-28,000 at home So do these clubs: Bristol City Middlesbrough Derby Ipswich Forest Norwich Sheff Utd Wolves West Brom Southampton Leicester Coventry I could go on... My point is they are not the special fanbase that they think
Irrespective of the point. Newcastle and City were about par with wendy re attendances in the 80's. Newcastle average 16k in 80/81 and 17k in 81/82 . Less than 17k in 91/92.. 10k v Oxford. not a hotbed in them days. Fans deserted em. Much like most clubs they have plenty of glory hunters. In fact I'd say we were on par or even better re percentage of population. Metropolitan area of Newcastle 300k. 800k if you include the borough of tyne and wear. City a bit better. Mid 80s to end of 90s never broke 29k But City were poor relations compared to man utd. still are for that matter. Re attendances.
They beat 10 men with a last minute goal where most thought they were second best, but after winning the golden ticket they spaffed it up against the wall, unbelievable
My mate who's a weds fan argues that they have two teams in their city unlike newcastle and therfore have better support!
4th biggest city in UK, population of 500k. Granted, support is split half n half between them and United. So, what 10% of the city supports Wednesday? We get 12k with a 100k population. On percentage we have better support
