    I wonder how much we (and other clubs) pay a middle man to book us a hotel instead of doing it directly

    If it's like the company we use at work, nothing. Hoteligent get a % commission from the hotel.

    Obviously I don’t know but is there not a chance that they bulk buy rooms at a rate an individual club/client can’t and then we don’t need an employee to manage it either so it might not work out much more expensive if at all?

    Yep a very good chance. Would be interesting to see the figures because obviously we aren't the only club doing it but the trend to outsource everything irks me a little as it's paying a middle man for something that could be done in house and it happens everywhere not just barnsley and really not just barnsley.

    I used to work away Monday to Friday every week and stopped in Premier inns. I found out the woman on reception who was making the bookings was getting a free nights stay for every 5 nights I stayed away. When i complained they just stopped booking Premier Inns!

    Because as a fellow company employee I felt it was unfair that I was the one having to work away and yet someone else was reaping the rewards and spending free weekends in the Premier Inn of their choice.
