Carrying an injury though which may explain it a bit (caveat- my 1st game of season was Wigan so didn't see how bad he has been). Class is permanent form is temporary etc etc
Some strange reactions to this news. Back when the stoey first broke that Coventry had alledgedly bid 2.5 million, there were people saying between 4 or 5 or tell them to do one etc. They've bid 4 million. They want him, clearly. Kitching hasn't been the same player since the first bid. I dare say he wants to go too, why wouldn't he? Higher league, bigger crowds, bigger wages, back alongside Thomas who he knows well. I say accept the next bid (should it come), and let him move on. He's done well for us. The last thing we want, and Kitching would want, is a souring of the relationship where the Club stands in the way. He's going eventually whether we like it or not. Take the amazing offer and move on.
Not sure what the value is, but you can certainly add money on because he scores goals from CB, that's fairly rare quality, especially the ones he puts away...
Which proven higher end division 1 defender and strikers are we going to get for a million quid? That's the problem we face.
I remember when the first bid news broke and I said £5 million and he’d go for me. He’s had some poor games since but I’m still at the same figure. He’s young, played a lot of games, has ages left on his contract, is our captain and when on it, our best defender. He’s also pretty good at stepping out of defence with the ball. Teams seem to often like that. In the meeting they said he wouldn’t leave this window and seems like they’re trying their best to stick to that. I wonder if it’ll get tested if Coventry go silly with it.
I think folk just want to turn down bids v accept good money. 4m for a decent left sided centre back that we've consistently found over the last ten years. Crackers.
I think we all know incoming transfer fees don't turn into fees that we pay out. How much of Andersen's £3.5m have we spent?
If think it's more that we're already short of decent center backs and there's one day left of the window.
If it was £4million cash up front he’d be there already. More layers than an onion I suspect. If they were guaranteed £4million even in instalments I applaud the backbone but question the logic - Kitch is a good player but £4million would be fair value
If the rumour that we have a centre back all but signed, I imagine turning £4m down is to squeeze a bit more out of them. We also have the option of bringing in a centre back on loan and line a permanent deal up for someone in January or next summer. I’d like Kitching to stay, but anything close to £5m is a lot of money for a League One centre back
I agree with this wholeheartedly, yes he's had a couple of bad games but who doesn't, speculation probably played more than its part in that. Left footed CB, operated at LWB so versatile, eye for a goal, young, English, long contract, current captain he ticks alot of boxes. my valuation on him was £5m and why not
Yeah I forgot about mads contract tbh. I do think it's a case of too late in window to find a adequate replacement, especially if clubs know we have just got 4 million and 24 hours to find a replacement.
Credit must be given to the board on this, £4million I would have expected them to snap their hands off, but the club are for once playing hard ball! £5million & add ons would be fantastic!
