Was just thinking about how long it was since we bought Hristov (25+ years) and whether there is likely to be any clubs with an older record than ours? Might we break it today?

Not a dig at the club in any way, I am glad we try and live within our means.

(Apologies if this has been discussed recently!)

It irks me that Milwall, Rotherham, Preston, Luton have broken their transfer records in last few year

Straight after Ismael season would've been the perfect time

Not a chance.it's clear to everybody that we need an oven ready striker for this level but they won't.It will be a prem under 21 lad.

Be nice to see it broken sometime soon but I don't think it will happen while we are in L1.

Millwall owner pumps in an average £12m every year, Preston have lost £48m in the last 3 years, Luton reached the Prem, I'm sure we'd break our record if we did that and Tony Stewart keeps Rotherham afloat and appears to be spending more than normal this year in an attempt to stop them yoyoing.
None have a financial model I'd copy.

I think we were quite close to breaking our transfer record when we were in for Lyndon Dykes a few years ago.
We bid upto £1.4 million but wouldn't go any higher, and we lost out to QPR for the sake of a few hundred grand

Millwall are edging towards the prem, Luton broke their record on Morris and reached the prem

With a 300 million injection secured or likely their business prospects aint bad :(

According to an article in today's Chronicle, our record fee is £5million received for Mawson in 2016.

I think we have equalled the Hristov fee, just not broken it. Mike Sheron was £1.5m I believe and there may have been more.

But for those 2 you’ve mentioned how many have failed miserably and now are in multimillion pounds worth of debt, personally I wouldn’t want to take that risk,

Annoyingly, rather than break our transfer record on some proven quality, we have, over the Conway years in particular, emptied the bank account paying transfer fees on lots of players who are "for the future"

@Archerfield was saying yesterday it was more like £13m (3+10) according to the accounts. We're probably due a bit more from our share of Everton's 2.5m bonus for City winning the Champions League last season (according to media reports).

Ironically straight after the Ismael season we signed two Belgians on ridiculous wages (allegedly) when all we really needed the next season was a bit of investment in the team we already had and not to appoint Markus Schopp

I don’t think our recruitment is a million miles off. The owners just need to get into their heads that experience is needed with a lot of young lads. McCart is a good signing for me but I wouldn’t say he’s been around the block. I understand the focus on younger lads but having 18 of them in a matchday squad is beyond belief sometimes.
