Give us a detailed assessment of the squad and if the players that have moved in this window, which ones you would like the club to have signed.
The late signing of someone with a bit of experience and who may be able to go some way to replace a striker we should never have let go, has raised my 2/10 to a 3/10
We're probably stronger in attack with Cosgrove and McAtee. Have held on to the best midfield and wing backs in the league. Weaker for now in central defence. Goalkeeper about the same as before. And about 8 or 9 million quid better off. It's not a 10 but how some see that as a 0 is ....well we know what their usual angle is.
Just for fun, because I agree with Bossman and will wait to see, on paper I would say... For the defence - 2/10 - Losing Anderson and Kitching alongside Thomas going back is a big blow, of course. It's a bit of a CB mess with unproven players, injured players and nightmare debut players but an optimist would say we'll be fine. I've seen little from Shepherd and Lopata to suggest they cannot step up. For the coffers - 10/10 - Some big sales paying for all the other wages. Losing Kitching is the unfortunate result of losing that playoff final. I hope Barnsley retained an interest because he has the qualities to go to the very top in my opinion. For the unpolished gems - 8/10 - I am hopeful the recruitment team have uncovered some stars here. So I guess about 7/10, based on not very much. Definitely not a zero though.
5/10 I’m pleased with the squad overall but that centre back spot really is a worry. Pleasantly surprised that Styles is still here, but we’re so overloaded in the middle now. Not sure what we’ll do with Connell, Kane, Phillips, Benson, Styles, Russell, Mcatee and Wolfe… Good signings: Cosgrove, Lopata, O’Keefe, Roberts, Mcatee Quietly confident on: McCart, James No idea/ time will tell: Mael, Killip, Shepherd, Watters Don’t get it: Dallas, Lofthouse, Dodgson
Solid 5 for me, rising if defensive gambles pay off. Early days on a brand new back 3. Rest looks very good for this league.
Yep JP. On the playing side I'd probably agree with a 5. I went for a 7 because we're certainly a lot more healthy financially. Time will tell.
Think the back 3 that played last week can cope with most of the attacks in this league and hopefully McCart can make it more solid .
I think this window has to be viewed with next January's to see its success. The main "achievement" this time has been in bringing in over £10m, if we are comfortable top 4 by January (dreamland imo) then they may be able to bank most of that. If not they need to show their intent and spend a chunk. Then we'll see the rewards, or not, of this window.
Welcome to Barnsley Player Trading Club... ( Formerly Barnsley Fc) May work may not, The only vote we've got is at Early Bird season ticket time..if ya not happy for this to be the way forward don't pay, otherwise suck it and see...
I'd say 7. I'd have like them to replace Kitch and maybe gone back in for the lad from Wimbledon, but making Cosgrove a permanent signing rather than just a loan, is a real boost.
Gone 7. Think we've done well overall. Keepers are no worse than last season if not better as so far Roberts looks very solid. Shame it's only a loan with him. Got real depth at wing back, especially on the right which is great. Midfield was already strong and is now stronger still with Styles back and McAtee here on loan who can play in attacking mid. Attack is looking stronger too with Cole, Cosgrove and Watters with McAtee, Marsh and Jalo to support those as well. The only obvious weakness is the centre back area where we have lots of numbers but we are much weaker than last season there. Those we have could come good and hit the levels of a Kitching or a mads etc. But they won't be at that level yet and it will take time. But still, overall a mostly positive window and CB area aside we look stronger than we did this time last season.
