I think in the nets (I know it’s still early days) Roberts definitely looks an improvement. Not seen enough of Killip to judge. Up front I would say we’ve improved. Midfield I would also say we will look better, certainly as soon as Luca returns. Wingbacks looks a good area for us going forward, hopefully tactically they can be sorted defensively. Centre halves is of course up in the air. But Lopata has come in and looked good and then Williams has that right centre back role so that leaves the other side for one of Shepherd, McCart, De Gevigney or even McCarthy. You’d think one of them would be sufficient. Shepherd looked good against Wigan but we’ll have to see if that level can be kept up with the jump up being so huge. We’ve also seemingly brought in a fair amount of finance, which will hopefully stand us in good stead moving forward. I think it’s been a solid window in general. Let’s revisit it in a few weeks to see how the team and squad have settled in.
For believing my championship (in stature) club should look for promotion this season after making 10 million pounds and being robbed in the playoff final Good heavens
Wow. That's the longest sentence ever. Take a breath. Oh, and whilst breathing in, I would love to know ( and I'm sure the other happy clappers aka supporters) what you would have done to prevent the dismantling of the defence had you been in charge. Specifically.
I simply dont know if its a good window. Im pleased with what we did with McAtee and Cosgrove to strengthen up front but i am still a bit at odds with the earlier signings who don't look like they have the needed goals at this level. but we have money in the bank and cant complain at that. the litmus test of course is results. If the defence can settle, gel and fulfil the potential then we will be a good window. Im sure the club will think it a great one if, when we reset in July again that we can make another 10m from player sales.
Another good part of the window, rejecting interest for Cole. https://x.com/leonwobyp/status/1697851373939724687?s=46&t=Kb0ck_npSQi3S0RtBaavZQ We need to try and get contracts sorted now for Cole, Cadden, Williams and Kane. Although seems like Kane isn’t too bothered about signing one and Cadden likes a 2 year deal with clubs to then leave on a free.
Correct. And yet many on here insist that our recruitment is absolutely terrible, while simultaneously selling our brilliant players who have somehow been picked up by our supposedly terrible recruitment. It's Schroedinger's football club, I tell thi.
We’ve sold a defender for twice as much as he is worth, shipped out two Scottish strikers not on the same wavelength as the rest of the team, brought in McAtee who looks to be an upgrade and brought in Cosgrove who should be an upgrade. Dodgson is a bit of a head scratcher but assume he is cover more than anything and I have no idea about McCart but assume he’ll be a bit more measured than Maul de Givenchy. All this is tempered by Shepherd looking like he can do a good job for us. I’m usually in the glass-half-empty camp but looking forward to three months with a settled squad. Looks alreight to me.
For me it’s ultimately been a very underwhelming transfer window. We lost our manager, & the spine of our team that played at Wembley. Nothing could be done about that granted, so the onus was on the club to replace them adequately. Collins the jury is still out on, but the players we have signed don’t yet live up to the standards of what we lost. We have a majorly unsettled back line, with our most experienced & influential player filling in at centre back when he’s a full back naturally. The young French kid looked well out of his depth on his debut. Mctart was unwanted at Rotherham ffs, & didn’t get the best feedback from his loan club last season. Which leaves Lopata & Sheperd, both none league players previously. Where’s the experience? The leadership? Yes on paper we might have a top 6 midfield, but 2 of them clearly don’t want to play for the club in Styles & Kane. Connell is recovering from illness/Injury, & we have no proper replacement to fill in for him, Russell is a completely different player & hasn’t performed above average yet has he. I still think we’re short of quality up front. Cole has admittedly improved over the period of time he’s been at the club, but I still don’t think he’d make the step up if we were promoted. Watters has been largely disappointing, just a follow on from last season really. Mcatee looks promising, as does Cosgrove who was decent for Plymouth last season. But the fringe players aren’t good enough & could do with loans, thankfully that happened with Shaw & Dallas, but why sign them? Marsh? I’m still not sure he’ll be good enough, but deserves a chance to prove he is, but we could do with one more established league 1/2 striker, the kid from Wimbledon would have fit the bill. Ultimately it’s been poor & we can’t be surprised if we finish mid table.
It's been a good window and we still have Khaleds big news to come. As for our defence Roberts Okeefe Cotter Williams, Lopata and Cadden have been really good so far and I believe Shepherd Gilgevny can be equally as good and I have hopes that McCart Cundy McCarthy Dodgson Killip Lofthouse can all do a solid league 1 job.
It’s not “for the owners” though is it? They haven’t taken any money out (other than Conway when he was acting CEO, but that money would have gone to another CEO anyway. Not that i’m excusing that). In fact the owners have put millions into the club recently to keep the lights on.
