Julian Broddle. I think his curls were natural but happy for you to prove me wrong.
Your post is one of the best I've seen on here.
You have no reason to feel inadequate. You're rubbing shoulders with people who don't give a flying **** about what you do/did for a living.

Definitely wasn’t the intention of the post for anyone to use it to look down on anyone. Just thought it was a fairly anonymous way to get to know people on here and also find out a bit about different people.

Interesting post MT. Back in the 90s after a highly stressful job at BOC I wanted to get out of office work and be my own boss.
I made the badly informed choice to buy a milk round. (I got out after 14 horrendous months but that's another story).
My round covered the suburbs around central Nottingham and included part of the Meadows. It was absolutely unreal and, like you say, was like a parallel but totally unconnected strata of society. The things folk would do there to try and swindle, rob, flog was mind boggling. I'm not laying blame for how or why those people came to be in that state. That's for another debate but the level of hopelessness, despair, crime was shocking. And for those who like to point the finger at immigration and immigrants for crime.....there was barely a non white, non English person living in the area I worked in.

    Haha, top response.
The curls were natural. And, if I were Julian Broddle, my write up would be retired professional footballer, and latterly decorated police officer with an award for pulling a drowning girl from a river. But left the force in disgrace over a drugs scandal, though used that opportunity to pen my memoirs into a book…..

But, for what it’s worth, I too, live in Ardsley….and liked Vic and Bob :)

It was my post that prompted that kind reply from 55&counting, though huge apologies if it has been misread as suggesting anyone is better than anyone else. The complete polar opposite. I am just amazed and proud at how many local folk (remember, Yorkshire folk have an almost worldwide reputation for being a bit ‘thick’ purely based on our accent) have such interesting jobs and careers.
When I was young man cutting my teeth in the drinking scene ‘darn Wombwell’, my mates were welders, bricklayers, window fitters, on the dole, a couple even did a stint in prison. Whereas I worked in a sports shop on £2.40 an hour!!!!
I did then ‘better myself’, so to speak, but by the time Barnsley reached the Premier League, I missed out as I had a mortgage and a young family and had to work all day every Saturday just to pay my bills.
Yet, 27 years on, I am still in the same job so, for all I moan about it, I must be happy really.

Solicitor, but time is now split 50/50 between practising employment law (I represent both individuals and companies) and management etc. as I’m an owner of the Firm. Feel very fortunate to have a job I genuinely enjoy.

slightly less eclectic than my brother , @Merde Tete :)

University Lecturer - loved all my working life teaching and of late in Senior Management but decided the time is up and I’m retiring next Summer!
Loved reading this thread - but the BBS is a bit like a nudist beach - background doesn’t matter because we all have one thing in common - our love of BFC. Most of us are ‘Made in Barnsley’. Royston in my case.

That's an impressive array! What exactly is a carbonisation operative?! My first thought was that it's connected with the production of fizzy drinks, but it probably isn't!
