I love games like tonight, especially when we see the talent we've got to come through the academy and reserves. So please excuse the positive spin on the below (but isn't that what being a fan is really about?). I think Conor McCarthy could be a great player for us. Clearly a very intelligent individual, talented enough for sure, just not the quickest or tallest. But when you've got brains you don't need as much pace. Very happy to see him back. Love Mael, he's mad as a frog in a sock and he reminds me of 1st season Mads Andersen. Let's hope we can coach him into a solid player by the time he's got a year left on his deal Really liked the look of Yoganathan and Chapman, though both could do with bulking up (to be expected, young lads of course). What to say about Aiden Marsh. One day he'll get a goal in front of a packed out ponty end and it will make my day. Keep going young man. He's above Watters in pecking order for me. Cosgrove clearly is a player and showed glimpses today. Dominant in the air, held up play well too. Grimsby had some pacey tricky players up front and we dealt with them very well. I do not accept that these games are worthless. Grimsby turned up to win.
Positives from todsys game McCart James Mael Dodgson Yanganathan Marsh Watters. Cosgrove will be very good. We have some real talent in our squad, recruitment team deserve some credit, a bright future ahead
Yes, as in it doesn't make or break a season.. but that doesn't deter from the fact that it meant competitive minutes for a young backup squad, which showcased some of the potential and talent we have to offer. Come on mate try and enjoy summat
Was at the game and thought Watters was really putting himself about, including stinging shot from RHS in 1st half. Cosgrove 1st game so, naturally, finding his way - would have been nice for him to net the 1 on 1 towards end of 1st half. Dodgeson lokked pretty alert/active. McCart looked pick of defensive line to me - but McCarthy is coming back from injury. A starting XI that was dictated by other purposes than winning or "building a squad". Quite happy with the out-turn. Work-in-progress but a very promising (squad) work in progress...
Edit: FFS, spelt de Gevigney's name wrong. Gonna save this quality meme for when he scores his first goal...
Think the big challenge is to "shape" de Gevigny's style to EFL utlility, i.e. not making early exits from games (cards or substitutions). Maybe hormone injections ?????
Not when everything you've posted on here after making this comment has been moaning or slagging Cole off hahaha
