David Lammy though. Like shooting yourself in the foot putting him in your shadow cabinet. Surely some better talent in the ranks than him.
Completely agree. And all I can think of when I see us lefties arguing amongst each other is some Tory nodding away and rubbing his hands together like the emperor in Star Wars. Plays into their hands.
Maybe he’s easier to control if they keep him close by. I can only think that was the idea when the Tories chose that pillock to be deputy chairman
https://www.theguardian.com/comment...rmer-economic-labour-tories-austerity-britain Some actual economists describing how labours current economic strategy is both economically illiterate and bakes in austerity.
A tragedy in 2 acts https://x.com/jrc1921/status/1699510306169328032?s=46&t=j20zR706pmXrBtdI_7p-NQ The prominent economist was https://x.com/jrc1921/status/1699515039542108329?s=46&t=j20zR706pmXrBtdI_7p-NQ Iain Dale described Reeves to the right of Gove on economics and not many economists would disagree. she espouses the failed mantra of trickle down economics that every serious economist dismisses.
Patently obvious to me that that is correct if Labour stick to their guns. They ARE suggesting a continuation of trickle down economics. The call for 'financial prudence', fiscal 'responsibility' and an unwillingness to tax wealth to improve equality, help growth and provide funds for rotting public services looks completely Tory to me. How are poor peoples' lives going to improve? How are public services to be financed? There will be no improvement for millions of people if Labour's economic strategy is what Reeves and Starmer say it is. The only hope we have is that Starmer is lying again and actually ends up being progressive. Fat chance. And I get patronised for suggesting I may not vote Labour. Joke.
I find it odd that people who say Starmer is not a liar are hoping that he is lying to gain power. 5D chess indeed
Pledges these are the very specific pledges that I voted for Starmer to enact. Anyone claiming he is not a liar has no relationship with facts.
Yeah. I moderate an economics forum and it’s a piece that pretty much everyone agrees with whatever shade of politics they are personally.
It's interesting towards the end when it highlights the danger of people turning away from democratic politics if they feel it gives them no hope. That's a dangerous situation that we've been in for a few year and it looks like we're about to accelerate further into this particular abyss.
I'll be voting Labour through gritted teeth to get this lot out' i then hope that in the near future someone from within the Labour ranks that still has some genuine working class values rises up from within and puts a dagger between his blades like he did to Corbyn' i know its a long shot because he's been snide enough to get rid of all potential challengers and surrounded himself with yes men.
It’s my view that Labour will get in not really do anything different and then a far right former Tory rump will get in power. The only way I can see that it doesn’t play out like is for a hung parliament to force Labour into at least make some effort to move away from the myth of trickle down economics
Professor of Epidemiology? But anyway, she does at least note: " We know that he has to balance political expediency with economic need."
