Haha, well I guess anyone can miss a pen, ask Harry Kane.
Shepherd looks far more composed than when Pinnock arrived. If he had been a Mr Men character, Pinnock would have been Mr Lapsy Daisy IMO. Obviously improved significantly but Shepherd started better I reckon.

Mick Butler. Worked as an electrician I think, at Dodeth Colliery. Deadly anywhere near goal, with feet or head. I believe we got him from't Brig.

Marc Roberts probably got the best ever contract in the history of football for someone with his ability. 5 year deal at Birmingham on 20k a week. Mintabulous.

Mawson was the one who could take the ball out of defence. Roberts was tough and would put his head where some players wouldn't put there feet, but not that good with the ball at his feet.

Cec McCormack signed for the club from non league Chelmsford and took a pay cut to do so. 43 goals in 51 games. Not see the like of that again.

They reckon he always called in The Griffen pub up Sheffield Road before a game.Boots tied together with the laces and wrapped over his shoulders,a couple of pints a ciggarette then down to Oakwell.

I assume that's why most transfers in football work to be fair mate!

December 1973, he was in the 4th year at our school, Worsbrough High School. I thought he signed for BFC from the Barnsley Boys Club, December 1975?

I thought it was a bit early mate. Only thing I could pick up was this. Your timeline makes more sense.
Given his date of birth and school leaving age.

    After a trial as striker..

    ----'-----------------------

Even though I scored I played a stinker and found myself on the scrap heap. A soccer reject at 14!”, he joked.

For the next two years, McCarthy learned under the tutorship of Keith Steele, whose father Johnny was secretary of Barnsley. Football took a firm hold on his life and such was his rise to prominence that he even managed to get some games for Barnsley’s reserves.

He was nevertheless destined to enter the pit as an apprentice electrician and had passed the pre-selection test.

In a desperate effort to change his fate, he pleaded with Barnsley boss Jim Iley and in December 1973 he signed as an apprentice at Oakwell on £14 a week, £21 less than if he had become a ‘sparky’.

Martin Bullock, ran Sol Campbell ragged whilst still wearing a shirt that would have looked big on big Sol.

Him and Sheridan were fantastic in the promotion and Prem years. Still find it hilarious that Shez went to smack Paul Ince and ended up chinning Jamie Redknapp. That alone gives him legend status.
