I'm not sure if the club wrote that survey or if the EFL sent it to them but it looks extremely flawed to me.

It asks what is your sex and then lists non-binary as an option. Isnt that a gender not a sex? Gender and sex are not the same thing (to those who believe there are more than two genders) yet hee we have a survey asking for your sex and listing genders.

Further down 'it asks are you trans. Isn't that already covered in the first question? Why push the same question again?

Seems like a box ticking exercise with no thought into the actual questions.

What are they going to do with the information? Sat round the coffee table having general chit chat. "Oh by the way Oakwell has a lovely smattering of homosexuals and a few pan sexuals in the East Stand upper tier. There's a few people into bestiality in the Pontefract Road end and some necrophiles in the West Stand. Splendid...Good work".

Who cares? Should they be shared out more equally round the stadium?

Intrigued as to how gender and sex aren't the same thing. The world is a crazy place at the minute and I don't know anyone actually knows what's going off anymore regards "gender".

It's that non binary thing that confuses me. I would hate to get into conversation with a non binary person. Addressing someone as they or them in the first person doesn't sit right with me.

I know you joke but actually it would be useful information for the club to know whether people outside of the social 'norms' appear to be more comfortable in certain stands and whether people with a disability are avoiding a particular stand especially considering Khaled closed the west stand a couple of years ago citing it's lack of disabled access as a main reason

I'm not an expert at all but as I understand it gender is often described as a social concept whereas sex is biological. One is science, one is just a description

Didnt know that, thanks. My own view is that we are male or female, more than happy for people to have a different view.

To be honest Stephen it doesn't sound right to me when I quickly think about whether it sounds right or not but in reality it does. Let's say that you are non binary or trans or whatever. If I was talking to you I wouldn't ever refer to you as they or them, I'd refer to you as you just as I would now. If never look you in the face and say hi Stephen how are him? I'd say how are you?
If I was talking about you to pontyendred then now I'd say have you heard what Stephens been posting again? He's been making dirty comments. But if you were trans or non binary it would sound just as natural to say have you heard what Stephens been posting? They've been posting innuendos.

Them does seem a little less naturally to me and I was struggling for a second to think how I'd use it but at the same time how often do we really call someone him in person? We don't really. Again talking about you it's different.

I think the biggest problem is the mental barrier we subconsciously put in place. We use they and them so regularly in general life without ever realising it but when we do think about it our minds tell us it's not the right thing to say. In reality if you're ever in the situation to use it I find it becomes natural after a few seconds when you manage to turn the barrier off

I think if you’re in conversation with them they don’t mind you calling them by their preferred name.

That's one thing that does frustrate me a little. Non binary or trans people who choose an absolutely stupid name for themselves. At that point they are just seeking attention. Spoke to someone once who said their name was xenon. Utterly stupid. A week later 'i go by wolf now' oh get ******

If you're speaking to them, surely the topic of he/she/they wouldn't come up?

We had someone work with us a few weeks ago, and I wasn't aware they identified as non-binary. I didn't ask them what their preferred pronouns were, and they didn't tell me. I had a normal conversation with a normal person, and it wasn't until a week later, when another colleague had said someone else had objected to them being non binary, that I actually found out they were.

I guess if you treat everyone with dignity and respect, it's a non issue.
