Just watched half a dozen men, one by one get served from behind my daughter who was at the front of the bar in Butterfields. No shame, just “me first” attitude.
After the guy who was standing directly behind her pushed in, I had a word. Told him it was pathetic. It really is. If it was you I make no apology for my rant. You knew what you did.

That mad you posted it twice :)
You did right btw. My o/h is brutal at the bar. Thing is, when they get called out they generally shrink. The bar staff should be on that though.

    Not sure how that happened.
Yeah the bar staff were useless.

The art of managing a bar seems to be long gone.

It used to be part of a bar maid(or barman, bartender, whatever term you like, I only use maid as my Nanan was one for years) to be able to scan a busy bar and know remember roughly what order to serve in. Even if you pushed to the front, you would be ignored until it was roughly time to be your turn.

Exactly this. I worked in a bar in Wakey in late 80s and I knew exactly who was next to be served and those who wanted serving first were given a good stiff ignore. Sadly this is a dying art, or so it seems

People who push in or don't indicate to the bar person that there was someone before them (obviously only if there was someone before them) should be taken outside and summarily executed

Similarly, if you are at the shop and only have a carton of milk whilst the person in front has a year's worth of shopping. They keep looking back at you and deny you a chance ahead. They then pay in cash but oh they get their wallet/ purse out right at the end and have to count their pennies. Love it.

Also standing in front of bus/ train doors without allowing the people off first.

    Tw@ts

Nobody likes a queue dodger. You know who you are and you know your place. Was in Kestrel for the first time today, no kids and baseball hats allowed absolutely crackers.

On another topic, when did it become the norm to shout at each other in the pub when having a conversation? The two hostelries I frequent in Dodworth are bedlam. The lack of self-censorship in terms of what used to be described as ‘pit language’ doesn’t add to the enchantment either.

“The Who’s next please?” cop out by bar staff is so annoying. That’s your job to know. Ok, you can’t be perfect, no one expects that, but putting the onus onto the customer to shout up is terrible service. The woman serving this afternoon just avoided any kind of eye contact.
There were several who got served ahead of my daughter who arrived at the bar after her, but the guy who I spoke to was actually standing behind her for 5 minutes. Just appalling manners.

To be fair this has happened for donkeys years. There have always been staff who don't observe properly and have always been the 'me nar!' rude folk who know they're queue jumping but do it anyway because they're not really bothered about anyone else. Happened to me in the Kestrel early this week. Stopped for a beer after shopping. Bar woman asked who was next and I pointed to this bloke who was there before me. I could have ordered my beer but the guy had been waiting. Two mins later 'who's next?' and this new arrival at the bar chimes up and makes eye contact and is promptly served. I made a comment and got an apology but I was pis.sed off. Barwoman not knowing her punters and rude person jumping in. Deadly combination.

I think it’s lack of training - or incorrect training.

Also, I genuinely think some bar staff are scared of doing what’s right, so serve the ones who push in, as they are probably tw@ts, so they don’t want confrontation.

Well, it’s their job. I shouldn’t have to confront anyone because the staff should do their job, and people should be more considerate. Years ago I would have just stood there being fed up, but now I call out people who are in the wrong. Maybe I’m just getting older and grumpier.

Unfortunately we are all probably guilty of this over our younger years. It's when you get a little bit older that you find a little more manners and perspective.
