Cole: I would have never predicted it, but...

He's doing things that I don't believe I've seen before. 8 goals in the opening 7 games. I'm pretty sure that's never happened in the 45 years+ that I've been watching Barnsley. I'm struggling to think of a player who scored 8 goals in any 7 game run at any time of the year. Maybe Winnall did it, and that's the quality I'm comparing him against

And that first today, it's not just a wonderful strike, it's that he already knows it's going in as soon as it left his boot, and he was celebrating while it was still in flight.

Maybe I need to start acknowledging just how good he is.

 

I'm not comparing them but the 1st reminded me of the strike Bergkamp scored against us in the prem for arsenal.

 

I think McBurnie got 6 or 7 in his first 7/8 games for us.

He's been fantastic for us recently. So happy for the lad. Give him a new contract!

 

Who was the last player we had that topped the leagues scoring charts at the end of a season? Cecil McCormack? Cole could do it this year.

 

Needs sorting now, or else he'll be off in January.

 

Good chance of that happening, especially if he continues his form. The board did very well offering Connell & Phillips contracts - hopefully that continues with Cadden & Cole shortly.

 

McBurnie got 6 in his first 8 games for us.

Dike went on a run of 9 in 13.

Ricardo Vaz Te had a spell of 10 goals in 9 games (including a brace in an FA Cup game) shortly before he left. 8 goals in 7 games if we only count league games.

 

Completely forgot about Dike!

 

His first goal was the best he’s ever scored for us. Sublime finish.

 

Peter Price scored 9 goals in his first 6 games for us, I think. Although not from the start of the season. I was so impressed I named my hamster Pipi after him.

 

I would love him to sign a new contract but it looks a very long shot and he would be absolutely crazy to do so.

In his shoes I would be running down my contract ready for next summer when some basketcase Championship club offers me a fat signing on fee due to not having to pay a transfer fee and treble my wages.

He's at the age now where his next contract will be the biggest he ever gets. Even if we get promoted so can offer him Championship Football here, what we'd be able to offer him compared to now would still get blown out of the water.

 

His goal was world class

 

I think Chaplin had a spell of 7 in 7 for us.

 

The worry is we seem to be reliant on him for goals.

 

To be fair, that's because we centre around him - Cosgrove hasn't played yet, McAtee plays in a floating role. Marsh is in & out. Watters has been hit & miss but has the most assists joint with Cadden. I think Cole is thriving due to our system, not because everyone else can't score. I suppose we'll find out if Cole gets injured or something at some point!

 

I seem to remember Clint marcelle scoring for fun for the first quarter of his first season then looked like he'd had the handbrake applied until picking up again for the important bit.

 

Agree with the finish. I was up as soon as it left his boot. But even though it might have been his best strike. His second one against Derby at home last season for me was the better worked one. He started it in our half and finished the move himself. I'd choose that as a better goal.
