Duff had a stronger overall team than Collins has but I am more excited about this coach, squad and what I believe they will achieve this season. Some of Duff's late season games were dreadful and his selections and tactics cost us promotion.
A failure. The aim was promotion. I like Duff. He did a good solid job for us. Not quite up to the standard of Hecky, Val or Daniel but as you say he improved some players
I think it was always the aim, or maybe hope is the better word, but never the expectation. Certainly not on here at least. To get nearly 90 points with that squad was some achievement.
Right now? Obviously not. If in the future we didn’t have a manager & he was available I’d happily have him back. I couldn’t care less if people see us as a stepping stone as long as they give their all whilst they’re here.
Was promotion really the aim last season? I was genuinely worried we could drop again. I thought it was pretty miraculous how fit he got them so quickly after seeing the state of Cadden, Norwood, Kane etc in the early weeks of last season. At the start of last season players like Cole & Kitching weren’t rated much at all. If someone said that Duff would help develop Kitching into a player worth £4m+ you’d think they were crazy. I expected mid table at best given the state the club was in. I thought he did a brilliant job.
He was 4th or 5th choice, Swansea were getting desperate, hardly a ringing endorsement is it? Their fans think he’s completely out of his depth, I agree. He went for the money, good luck to him, it’s a short career most managers get sacked eventually, it the long haul nonsense that queered his wicket for many and you can see why. Just keep your head down, don’t make promises you have no intention of keeping and win football games. Simple.
Another huge fixture tomorrow, against another team also struggling down the bottom. Another bad night at the office will just heap more pressure on him. I think he's a brilliant coach. I'm not gonna start saying otherwise, just cos he left us. I just think the fit is a strange one, and it's gonna take time for him to get his style across. Guess it depends how much time they're prepared to give him. Football's weird though. Who knows, they might smash QPR tomorrow, and all the Swans will then be saying they've turned a corner.
Tell ya what cost us promotion Starting Slobodan f***king Tedic in a play off final instead of another striker who was made for this occasion and key for the team all season Going slow and cautious in first half against a bunch of OAPs Not taking the dee dars by the throat after we battered em twice already
You go on about Norwood alot mate let it go... I think the loan signings in tedic and watters probably cost us promotion though 2 more strikers who scored more frequently to chip in with goals and we would have gone up. If we started Norwood in that final he would have been spent after 60 minutes now he was a sub at the weekend for a side 3rd bottom in the national league
The dee dars were scared stiff of Norwood though after the two league games. Made a massive difference when he came on imo. I'd have started him personally.
He's GONE he's NOT coming back no point keep going on about LAST season ,time to look FORWARD we've got some new strikers give THEM your support. If he was so good ( and i liked him) why is he in non league?
He came on in what was his best performance in a barnsley shirt at Wembley. Tedic wasn't very good at Wembley missed a great chance 1st half and a awful touch. But I don't think Norwood could have done the chase ball in that heat for 90 minutes so it's swings and roundabouts. Like others have said time to forget Norwood he's a striker for oldham who currently sit 3rd bottom of the national league.
