He really shouldn’t have… it was straight out of the Tom Daley playbook

He sho7kd have been hauled off immediately for playing the ********. To be fair, he did improve 2nd half, but his replacement showed he should be a long way off a starting position for now.

Stick de Gevigney on as well and tell him to get forward. They won't know what's hit 'em.

He can look really good or really poor. Boat loads of potential though with the right coaching. Considering where he's come from though, I think it could be the best 25k we've ever spent. Someone really needs to tell him to stop dragging it back though. His left foot is worse than mine.

Nowhere near the worst player last night

Robert, Lapaka, Williams, McCartt, Russell, kane, Phillips, cole and mcatee were god awful and cadden and cotter were as bad as each other

I thought Cotter was ok actually ' but frustratingly he kept doing the hard bit and losing the ball at the crucial point so there was little end product' he is certainly more effective offensively than he is defensively though' more of a wide forward than a full back for me.

Williams did OK in defense out of a poor lot. Kane was woeful first half but ten times better second when Styles came on. I was pleased they worked well together.

Cotter is great going forward but no defender.

He's also like a young dog, just 100 percent at everything and no tactical or strategic thought. It will come though, don't write him off.

I was surprised to hear he led in assists a few weeks ago, as I think his end product lets him down.

He beats a man so easily with pace and trickery, but seems to get caught in two minds.

work in progress, but potentially very good.

Cotter is quick and tricky but his crossing into the box is poor. He does all the hard bit in getting into space but little comes of it. Think Martin Devaney needs to work with him on this aspect of his game. Perhaps time to play O'Keefe on that right hand side who crossing of the ball is more precise from what I've seen.

Cotter's crossing is inconsistent, but at his best his balls across the box are absolutely lethal. He's been working closely with Disco, and it's showing. Not at his best against Pompey but he's a great weapon to have in our locker.

an attack minded player doesn't stop and just lay the ball back in 9/10 runs - attack after attack break down with him

Look at how well he finished that chance, in what was a well worked move. No touch to control it, just make your mind up what your going to do, and hit it.
It was a real strikers finish.

There's a player in there with Cotter. He's eager and actually grateful to be here, a trait which may fans long for a player to have, yet take it totally for granted when it appears.

He's young, still very raw and is making a massive step up from his previous level.

Defensively he's poor, but he will improve. His final product is also poor at times, but that too will improve.

What he does have is pace and the ability to beat a man. His long throws may also prove useful over a 46 game season.

Personally, I would take him back out of the side now. Too much too soon and all that... O'Keefe is a more "complete" player compared to Cotter.

But I can guarantee that Barry will be a fans' favourite before he leaves. If nothing else, he's proud to wear that red shirt, and that goes a long way with me.

Agree with all of this. Can see Cotter being a right player when he develops, which to be honest, I couldn't see last season.

His main 'problem' is that O'Keefe looks like an absolute world beater at this level, albeit on limited viewing so far. It doesn't really matter how much promise Cotter shows, he's country miles behind O'Keefe.

If the rest of the season builds on how we've started, and O'Keefe can steer clear of injuries, then Cotter will be O'Keefe's replacement come next summer when he's sold for big bucks.

Of course now I've jinked it, O'Keefe will start on Saturday and either be utter garbage or do his ACL.

With the way we play, wing back is a hugely energy-sapping position. We're very fortunate in that we seem to have two very exciting options there, both of whom offer something slightly different from each other. O'Keeffe definitely looks to have the more complete all-round game, but Cotter has that unpredictability and turn of pace which can be absolutely devastating. I think we'll see a lot of both of them, although rarely at the same time.

Obviously the ideal would be if the club scientists could somehow splice them into each other, producing one player with all their abilities combined. £100 million from Man City incoming to replace Kyle Walker.

I guess losing 9-6 instead of 3-2 would be entertaining if nothing else.
