A car got set on fire underneath a bridge holding part of it up. Council have taken months arranging inspections to it to decide what to do and in the meantime left it unsecured allowing someone to do further damage

Someone burnt a car (I think) out in the underpass linking Goldthorpe and Thurnscoe. Apparently it damaged the bridge and there was concern regarding its structural integrity. So they closed it understandably. Nothing worked on it for ages. Don't know if work has even started yet. Last update back in August was that they couldn't start testing yet (whether that is testing to see if repairs are okay or just general testing before work starts) because someone had damaged the fence to keep people walking through the underpass. So residents have got no idea what's going on really. No end in sight. Tonnes of traffic through Goldthorpe every day. School/rush hour is just madness and quite dangerous.

The tests have been conducted and the council are waiting on the results according to the latest update. The damage is pretty bad, spalling of the concrete and distorted rebar could mean a partial rebuild. I suspect it’ll be closed for quite some time if that’s the case.

More costs to the council for mindless acts of vandalism!

Not so long ago I saw footage of a bridge in America where a vehicle had crashed and burst into flames. The flames were put out by the bridge collapsing...

A bit of inconvenience is probably better than someone being avoidably injured

Of course! But it’s all down to the idiots that stole the car and set it on fire. Unnecessary damage and an inconvenience for everyone else, and for what?

A car was burnt out left under the bridge, a fence was erected to start the work to monitor its integrity, the fence was vandalised - now waiting for fence to be reinstalled. Havent even started stage 1 of the monitoring.

Remember the tiny hole at the bottom of Summer Lane, it took months to fix; everyone passing the buck.

    That bypass helped kill Goldthorpe.

not that it was ever brilliant but it used to be busy with people driving through, lots stopping etc. ghost town now whenever I’ve been lately

Correct, she was the game-changer that swung politics in the UK further to the right paving the way for Brexit and Truss. She was the luckiest PM we've ever had, she was deeply unpopular prior to Galtieri's invasion of the Falklands but became a Churchillian hero. Not that she did anything that any other PM wouldn't have done - arguably, her cost cutting of the Navy being a contributory factor, almost an invite to Argentina.

Probably Wath Tesco hurt Goldthorpe as much as anything recently. Why go to 5 shops in Goldthorpe when you can go to 1?
