Arsenal get a penalty against spurs from a totally accidental handball - ball deflected into defenders hands from initial shot 2 yards away- impossible to get out of the way. Anthony Gordon gets a clear advantage from his handball against Sheff Utd - also accidental - leading directly to a Newcastle goal. Goal stands What a mess.
Following on from the one Luton got against Wolves yesterday (which was a joke) that Arsenal one had to be given.
Sounds identical to Luton penalty that. Player shoots less than a yard away, ball deflects off defenders shin onto his hand and penalty given.
It’s accidental but his hands up in the air away from his body. It is a penalty. Thought they should’ve had a second pen for handball with Udogie at the corner.
Had we not been given that Arsenal one, our fans would have been talking about it for weeks. I thought it was a defo pen. Very few hand balls arnt accidental,
How on Earth is a player supposed to keep his arms perfectly by his side in a physically active sport like football? The only real answer is that any incident where the ball hits the arm or hand is a free kick or penalty, ie take the "intentional" aspect right out of the equation. But that opens up the possibility of players deliberately hitting ball onto a players' hand to get a penalty - madness lies this way
I thought that had already happened, and I have seen players aiming for flailing arms. Had we not been given that penalty this board would have exploded. His arm was sticking out and his hand stopped the ball going in the net. It wasn’t an obvious attempt to handle the ball, but most fouls aren’t intentional either.
The Arsenal one was a joke because they ignored White controlling the ball with his arm before he shot.
I agree with you there, it’s impossible to keep it by your side I just think on this occasion it was unnatural. It’s hard as obviously no one’s interested in watching me play so the games aren’t recorded but I can’t imagine me or any other players are trying to block a shot with one hand so far up in the air like that. Just felt like he was asking for trouble. I do think players already try that. I thought Liverpool’s pen against Spurs in the champions league final was a deliberate attempt to kick it against the Spurs players hand.
John Brayford, who wisely didn’t turn up with Burton last week. He should be ashamed of that save for the rest of his footballing life, but he won’t care will he?
