So we're through to the next round now aren't we? Grimsby and Man City can't catch us with one game left so we're guaranteed at least 2nd.
Really enjoyed that game, thought we played on the front foot and lots of players doing themselves credit so hopefully bodes well.
Enjoyed that. Decent, open game. Thought Chapman and Pickard were excellent. Josh Benson and Conor McCarthy showed they were a class above this level. The young subs did great, especially Yanganathan. I understand why the talk is always about Jalo, Dyer etc but he’s the one I’m most excited about. Think there’s potentially a top, top player on our hands.
Enjoyable game that, both teams played well, some got individual performances on both sides……….be nice to repeat 2016’s heroics
Enjoyable night at Oakwell. De Givigney had an excellent game & will more than likely take Lopata’s spot. McCarthy & Shepherd both looked solid. Pickard was decent, made some good runs & kept possession fairly well. I thought Danny Benson had a bit of a nightmare to be honest. Struggled to find a Barnsley player with the ball & lost his man for the City goal. Russell looked a level above in the middle. Josh Benson looked like he was just happy to get 90 minutes in the tank without an injury. Kept it simple. Chapman was more of the same of what we saw earlier in the season. Wasn’t one of the better performers but looked like he belonged which is pretty good considering his age. Jalo was fairly poor. I felt this was a game for him to look good in but it’s not quite coming off for him since that stunning performance against Donny last year. He’ll look outstanding skinning a man but then make a mess of his finish. I’ve seen a few slate Watters for been lazy but I don’t think that’s the case at all. I think his confidence is shot to pieces. He looks like he’s got no faith in himself to score or beat a man. There were at least 3 occasions where he was 1 on 1 with a defender who he was quicker than where he ended up stopping turning back & passing to a team mate behind him. Definitely needs a goal. Of the subs, it was good to see Nzondo score but other than that he wasn’t really in the game. The stand out for me was Yanganathan who was excellent & the player who impressed me most tonight. His passing was accurate & he took risks with it. He won plenty of tackles & used his size well. I hope he gets more chances after that. As for City the team they fielded tonight isn’t a patch on the one they fielded against us a few years back with Garcia, Poveda, Sandler, Bolton & Matondo in it. Other than a bit of pace out wide they didn’t have a lot.
Agreed. It would be better if a drawn game ends sharing 3 points rather than 2 - so the penalty winners get an extra point in the league.
Pretty much how I saw the game and your other comments. You may not agree as you've not mentioned him. but I'd like to add I thought Killip had a very good game. (Re the goal not much he could have done imo ) His handling was very good and caught the ball every time when pressured.
Agree mostly with the match report. Watters is clearly struggling with confidence. Hope he finds a bit of form as much for his own wellbeing. A shout for Benson. I think the lad is a hell of a player. A top technician on the ball. Excellent distribution. If he can keep getting fitter ...and he put in a good shift ....he could be a special player.
