Help reqd re VOIP phone and/or full fibre broadband.

    I'm with Plusnet and they only do full fibre broadband without phone. (as apparently other ISP companies do)
    If I want both then they've told me that BT do a double package.
    Has anyone on here any experience of having to swap to full fibre but still retained their old landline phone number, using a VOIP phone/adapter, and if so who do you use and how much does it cost? Is it a complicated process?
    Also I'd lose my email address that I have with Plusnet.

    We've had 1gb full fibre to the house for about 5 years in York. I have a VoIP phone and my BT landline was transferred to it. We never use it to be honest but thought I'd retain the number. It didn't cost anything though to have it and in fact we stopped paying for BT line rental at that point so it actually saved us money. Call costs are similar to BT and you can buy minutes packages but again we never ever use it for incoming or outgoing calls.

    You might be best moving to EE who, I believe, will provide a VOIP line on the FTTP.

    I don't know if this is relevant, but just in case...

    I'm with BT and have broadband via a router and also a traditional landline number. BT wrote to me recently to advise that they're switching everyone over to something called BTVoice, which involves my phoneline coming via the router. The change will happen later this year (early next year?). To be honest, I've not given it much thought as (a) it doesn't affect our number, and (b) in any event we're a bit like @Gally and never use the landline. All our incoming and outgoing calls are made on mobiles.

    Anyway, just thought I'd mention it.

    o/t a bit
    Recently changed form B T to Utility Warehouse - B T made it difficult and at one point without my permission put me on a new contract which I only found out by chance checking my e-mails. Had I not done that within 14 days I'd have been fkd and stuck on a new contract.
    Take care it's a bit of a hornets nest!

    I have been reading about this and it is a nationwide switch from analogue phone lines to digital via internet for everyone by 2025.

    Yes major drawbacks are it doesn’t work in a power cut or if you fuse blows
    Significant problem if you have no mobile signal or the nearest mast is also without power

    Linked alarm systems and things like the panic button service for elderly need to be updated

    Basically it works like Skype now

    I’m on full fibre VOIP phone and retained my geographic land line number. Just get used for incoming calls tbh. Quality of the calls is excellent but all outgoing calls go via mobile to avoid paying for calls or buying a call package.
