Having been victorious in the cup in midweek, the reds will be looking to returning to winning ways at home in the league. The bookies have us at 11/10 favourites to see off the seasiders, who have found life back in league one quite tough. The visitors are 11/5 to pick up their first away league victory of the season. The tangerines are yet to score away from home in the league, albeit they've only played 3 away league games. They've lost at both Wycombe and Lincoln, but gained a credible goalless draw at an Exeter side who are currently exceeding expectations. In those two defeats, they've had more of the ball and more chances, however played second fiddle in the stats to the dominant Grecians. Blackpool won their final 2 championship away games against sides with nothing to play for, however aside from those, and the draw with Exeter, they've lost every away game in 2023. In recent history at Oakwell, our record has been mixed against Blackpool. Since 2000, we've won 9, drawn 3 and lost 5 in all competitions. Blackpool's victory in their last visit to Oakwell was their first in 5 visits (in normal time), and came after the reds had been relegated the previous week and Poya Asbaghi had been dismissed. Callum Styles is the only player from that squad who is likely to feature for the reds this weekend, as Matty Wolfe battles injury, and Aiden Marsh is out on loan. Experienced referee Charles Breakspear has had a busy start to the season, issuing 35 yellows and 2 red cards in 8 games so far this season. He controversially sent off ex Barnsley loanee Joe Wildsmith in Derby's defeat to Bolton earlier this month, a caution which has since been rescinded. His last reds appointment was our 1-0 away victory over Wycombe in March, and he also took charge of our opening day defeat to eventual champions, Plymouth. He last took charge of a Blackpool fixture on the final day of the 20/21 season, when they defeated Bristol Rovers 1-0 as they ended the season in the play-offs. Whilst our home form has been mixed so far this season, Blackpool's away form leads me to be confident that we'll get a positive result. I don't think they'll continue to misfire away from home, so I'm going for 2-1 reds, with Cosgrove and Phillips on the scoresheet.
That opening day defeat where we were denied an absolute stone waller with one of the most blatant shoves? Bodes well. I’ll go 2-1.
I can't see us keeping a clean sheet against Jordan fcking Rhodes. Not feeling confident here. 2-1 to Blackpool.
2-2. Defence is nowhere near good enough to be beating teams who have a bit of quality. Dougall first goal.
what merde tete said If we defend and mark as we did against portsmouth & peterborough.... Rhodes will be rubbing his hands. Past his prime but still an expectional finisher Another striker they have is Shayne Lavery, who looked decent in the championship Im afraid we may well concede 3 goals once again
2-2 Same as others in relation to our defence. Still work in progress. Blackpool will get better and move up the league imo.
I’ll go 2-1 win for this one Rhodes will score like he seems to do against us every time he plays . Double for cole will get us the three points
Reckon we’ll need to score at least 2 to get anything from the game. Jordan Rhodes worries me against our back line.
