Off in a coupla weeks with the fam. Any recommendations on location, tips, do’s, dont’s etc? We’re there for 2 weeks. Plan is just a couple of nights in Bangkok to adjust, then head off. We just haven’t decided where yet! Ta.
Krabbi beach is good. we got a cheap flight into Cambodia and went to Ankor Wat. Kosan Rd in Bangkok is mental and would recommend a visit to the imperial palace while your in Bangkok. enjoy
Koh Chang is magical. A bit of a clat to get to as it doesn't have an airport, but I can guarantee it's worth it, and the journey is part of the fun. I don't know whether you're going cheap and cheerful or lux. We did something in between as we were in Thailand and Cambodia for 6 weeks so couldn't go splashing out on everything. Took a government bus to Trat which was insanely cheap but very rough and ready. Good laugh though. On the way back we took 1st class places on the luxury bus which was still inexpensive and had seats that reclined into beds. Much better. From Trat you get a ferry to Koh Chang. We'd booked two nights accommodation in advance on booking.com . It turned out to be decent so we negotiated a better deal directly with the hotel for another fortnight. We were staying near Klong Prao, which was pretty lively - plenty of eateries but no nightclubs, so ideal for families. Our accommodation there was cheap and cheerful, but comfortable and spotlessly clean. We later moved to the north side of the island for a week to some proper lux accommodation with its own beach, infinity pool etc which we'd booked before leaving for the period over new year as we were worried that everything would be full if we chanced it. The apartment was incredible but we got pretty bored there after a couple of days as it was so out of the way. I could go on and on about it as it was such an incredible trip. Ankor Wat in Cambodia is also awesome, but if you're only going for a fortnight I'd probably save it for another time. Feel free to drop me a PM if you need any more advice at all.
Ye..we took a coach to Phnom Penh from Ankor Wat . really cheap, was parked next to a guy who had a pig in the passenger seat of his tuk tuk and an old couple got on the bus with folding garden chairs and sat in the isle...priceless
I used to go to a little island called Koh Samet. It’s a national park and the beech was amazing. It was 15 years ago I last went and it wasn’t spoiled by nightclubs and streets and streets of bars although there was enough to choose from to have a beer . A bungalow on the beach was £10 per night and you was literally 10 yards from the sea. Things may have changed since I last went but it was paradise. I used to get the speed boat from a place called Rayong(about one and half hour drive from pattaya)and it took about 20 minutes to get to the island. Would highly recommend
We didn't go to Phnom Penh, but the bus from the border at Poi Pet to Siem Reap was bad enough. Reckon it was 1960's, possibly older. The number of improvised vehicles on the road that had clearly been welded together in someone's garage was fascinating and terrifying in equal measures!
Thanks for this. Will add to the list. Koh Lanta was also recommended but ferries don’t start until November and I don’t fancy a 3 hr taxi. Might give you a nudge, cheers.
Typing this from Phnom Penh! I'd do the classic city, culture and jungle. Bangkok is a lot of fun and has one of the best street food scenes in the world - some of it Michelin starred. The north is the cultural heart of the country, beautiful temples, hilltribes, scenery, active adventure and even some reputable elephant sanctuaries like Patara. Then finish on a beach of your choice. Note that the east and west coasts have different weather patterns, Phuket, Krabi etc to the west will still have quite a bit of rain in a few weeks. Koh Samui etc the east should be a drier choice.
We drove South from Bangkok to Hui Hin, not too Blackpooly. We were disappointed with Koh Sumui quite tacky not what we expected. Think you will like Hui Hin ,if I spelt it right.
If she’s not got a wristband on, don’t waste your time taking her back to the digs… Very envious, it’s the most beautiful place on earth.
Did 3 weeks earlier in year, 5 nights in Bangkok were certainly a taster as to what to expect Full day visiting the temples and palaces well worth a shout but would recommend paying for a local guide Then a week in koh samui. Beautiful place Stayed in fisherman’s village. A little quieter than the bigger resorts but enough to keep you entertained Last resort was Phuket. Bigger resort with everything you expect Plenty to see and do Everyone needs to visit Bangla Road at least once in their lifetime
Khao Yai National Park - Excellent Bangkok - Its still rainy season at the minute , so you could get unlucky and have 3 hr downpour in the evening Whereabouts in Bangkok you staying?
