Agree with this. I was always taught to head the ball down so you don't head over the bar and the keeper has to deal with the bounce. Sadly for us on the day it helped Wright and a straight header would have scored. I remember Ian Marshall (i thinkalthough might have been Mike Milligan) for Oldham heading it into the ground about 3 yards out in front of the Ponty one hot sunny day and the ball bouncing over the bar. Can't remember the keeper but he was well beaten (at a guess would say Baker) the striker did what he was taught to do. on that occasion it bit him on the ass. Same with Hristov.
Imo Ipswich were well above everyone else last season, to an extent where they dont/ didn't have to go out and splash £££££££ once promoted, wouldn't be surprised if they go up automatically ( like Southampton did a few years back) didn't expect Chaplin to be as good in the championship as he is tbh, there team either suits is style of play or he as been coached incredibly well
Sorry to bump this again Helen, but at this rate, they could be up by Christmas! Wednesday however, could be coming down with the trimmings.
I thought they looked outstanding at Oakwell thought they would go up or at least be thereabouts again this season
Best manager in the Football League. Will be managing one of the Top Six in the next few years. Unreal coach.
And yet, there were rumours they were close to sacking him in February. I don't doubt that he's a good coach, but last January he was afforded the budget to bring in a handful of decent championship players to get them up. They were streets ahead of everyone by the end of the season, which for me means it was no surprise when they started this season off well too. I had them down as dark horses, behind the 3 relegated teams though.
I predicted them for top 6, but I never expected them to come flying out the traps like they have done, just because it's such a tough league.
They entertain Leicester on Boxing Day. That should be a fascinating clash, with the return fixture at the King Power on 20th January.
They are killing it and look streets ahead of the rest, barring Leicester. Must be the best time to support them since they beat us in the play off final almost a generation ago. It's weird because they don't have a squad that screams top 2 in the championship. Cast offs from other Championship sides like Morsy, Luongo and Chaplin, added to homegrown talent and solid League 1 players like Harness, Ladapo, Broadhead and Hirst. Dictionary definition of greater than the sum of their parts and a fantastic coach in his first proper managers job.
Like a young Bobby Robson. They could do alright in the Premier League with good recruitment. Below the top eight it's dogger.
