Following on from the F1 thread, if you could go to any non-football sporting event in the world (or indeed you've been) what would it be? For me, it would be the All-Ireland final of either Gaelic football or hurling. I wouldn't particularly care which one, although would probably prefer football just because the ball is easier to see. My attempts at following the puck when watching ice hockey proved utterly futile. My Irish American aunt went a few times as she used to date a guy who had connections in the Gaelic football world. Tickets are apparently like gold dust these days. The atmosphere looks absolutely incredible, and they're both pretty cool sports. Much more watchable than rugby for me.
If I ever hear of a spare I'll give you a shout. My brother in law gets them through his club in Leeds as they're properly affiliated. A few of the family have been to most when Mayo have been there. The Dublin > Leeds flight home is always a bit ropey...
Boxing day Ashes test. On mine and @MarioKempes retirement bucket list. A big boxing fight in Las Vegas. A good track finals session at Olympics.
I agree re Hurling or Gaelic Football. I've been in Ireland before when it's been on, and the atmosphere is incredible. I'd love to see a hockey game at MSG too.
Mate, that would be seriously awesome. All my ancestors on my mum's side hail from Mayo. A proper bunch of characters according to my aunt, who researched the family tree after she retired. Apparently our family were quite big landowners in those parts in the early part of the 20th century, but most of the more capable members left, either for South Yorkshire or New York, leaving the ne'er do wells in charge of a very large farm. Which apparently one of my great great uncles managed to gamble away in a drunken game of cards. So I'm now no longer an Irish agricultural heir.
Gymnastics - World Championships on at the present time. o/t referencing a previous thread the commentator Christine Still is brilliant. ---------------------------- Athletics - men/ women 1500 and 5000 metre races ---------------------------- failing the above would like to go to see Strictly Come Dancing - is that a sport ?
I've been lucky enough to have watched a lot of different sporting events and although I don't play the game anymore - or have much interest in it - I still would like to go to the Masters. Other than that, I'd love to watch a Red Sox/Yankee game at Fenway or a Cubs/Cardinals game at Wrigley Field. Also, a mountain stage in the Tour de France - Alpe d'Huez, Mont Ventoux or the Tourmalet.
