Labour actually got more votes when they finished second in Rutherglen at the last election. Looks like SNP voters stayed at home yesterday. Labour would be wise not to make too much of yesterday's result. I'm not sure the Scots are warming to a Starmer led Labour Party any more than voters south of the border.

It was a 37% turn-out for a by-election - you'd expect that Labour voters would also stay at home in a similar ratio to the other voters. Or even if they stayed home at half the rate of the other parties it would be a major swing.

A mate north of the border likens Labour and the Tories to two cheeks of the same backside!

Said on news that Labour absolutely hammered the run up in the amount of doors they knocked on.
Sounds like they put more much effort in the lead upto.

That's an opinion regarding SNP voters staying at home. Facts are Labour got 58.6% of the vote, SNP 27.6% of the vote, that is a drubbing for the SNP and a big swing to Labour.

It’s a good win for Labour , turn out is about average for a bye election . A lot of campaigning resources were spent on the win which has paid off , it will be interesting to see during the next Election if resources are diverted to targeted seats instead of traditional safe seats in the south and if ordered to do so by Starmer the executive election committee comply with it , unlike the last election

I think you are 100% correct, Labour won this seat under Corbyn in 2017 then lost it after 2 years of character assasination and the right of the party working against him but they still got more votes in 2019 than they did yesterday. Plus it was a by-election called because of wrong doing by SNP incumbent so it was a good bet that the SNP vote would collapse.

Rejoice, it's the beginning of the end for this incompetent self serving government. The wall red wall resurrection continues in Tamworth & Mid Bedfordshire.

    Gobsmacking result in Mid Bedfordshire.

Tamworth interesting too, it's a bit of a bell weather constituency, it switched to Labour in 1996 months before the Labour landslide in 1997. The Tories must be resigned to their fate, get ready to see lots of Tory MPs saying they'll stand down at the General Election and start looking for cushy jobs with their chums in business...

Very good results for Labour. Turn out in Mid Beds was very good for a by election.

A good day for anyone who despises the Tories regardless of views pro or against Labour.

Interesting take from the tories on the morning news round. We are doing great everyone loves us.
