On tomorrow's Undr the Cosh Lets just say he didnt like Barnsley, he said club was dead atmosphere like a Cemetery He drove through town centre and said to himself what am i doing here no way do i want to live in this place. Said Town Centre was awful and decided to live in Sheffield but most of time drove back to London
I actually thought he/Lita was a good experienced player, and a good signing at first. But when he played for us and put the shirt on... he was as bad as a pair of dirty pants!!.
Seemed at the time that he signed for us for one last pay day as he wasn’t interested at all. Amazing to think he was only 29 when he signed and is only 38 now, and still playing non-league football. He’s sort of right about the atmosphere though. 14/15 wasn’t a vintage year and the core fan base was tested to its limit. The average gate was about 8000.
In fairness, the town itself wasn't brilliant back then. I worked in the town centre probably a year before Leroy rocked up, and it wasn't a great place to be. We once had a woman from HR visit us, and she arrived in tears as shed been racially abused on the walk up from the train station. Visually at least, the town centre is something to feel much more pride about now. In regards to Leroy, I didn't think he was abysmal, but certainly wasn't great. 'The plan' was in its infancy then, and I reckon he was one of the last few hangovers from the era where we valued experience over ability.
I was really excited when he arrived...but his attitude was abysmal and he clearly didn't want to be here. I think the one fault is that clubs can sign players like this but don't do the homework on his attitude. Looking at his play and stats he was the right guy just very wrong with his aptitude to playing.
Tbh i feel the same about a few places in England. Compared to Barnsley the likes Coventry, Rotherham and the whole of Norfolk is like going through either a ghost town, or latterly a timewarp into a place that hasn't discovered running water yet. All about opinion
He was poor for us. he’s right about the atmosphere though, even this season it’s like a morgue. Duff did amazing last season to rally the supporters & create a better atmosphere. This season it’s dead again.
Are you suprised? Last season we was playing good football selling out oakwell had a manager who was here for a long term project.. this season we have lost 4 home games already.
Ye, he came with a negative attitude and found reason to prove hinself right. A few sh*te performance's and the fans giving him stick and hey presto the stories complete. If this was his belief why dint he go to the manager and agree a no compensation mutual departure..Ah wonder.
Only impact I saw Lita have was a breaking a supporters glasses with a miss hit shot during the warm up at Chester away. Sums up his time with us for me.
I don't buy into this idea that the atmosphere will only improve if the football is good. If anything, a good atmosphere is likely to spur on the players and help create better performances. Fleetwood at home last season was a prime example of that. I honestly feel the crowd gave the team a lift that day and we ground out a result in what was an ugly game.
Mostly agree with this. Most home grounds the fans wait for the team to give them something to cheer about, it really should be the other way round. If our away record was our home record and vice versa I think the atmosphere would be loads better. Yet we’d still be on the same points and in the same position. Perception against reality.
I do think part of the reason why our away form is so good, is that the atmosphere from the away end is better than at home. Obviously it's not the only reason, but I think it contributes.
Same for me, I was very enthused by his signing. He'd been a very good player and was still in his prime. He didn't exactly do nowt but near as dammit. If that's all it was then fine, you just move on. But I find very distasteful him going on podcasts and the like getting laughs about the town and the club while admitting he didn't try. He took a lot of money out of us, and there were professional people who I have a lot of time for who had put their faith in him and were relying on him to do a job. People whose jobs were ultimately on the line. I have no problem with any player we've had who was simply crap. Paul Gibbs (to use an example of someone many often cite as a particularly poor player) did not force Barnsley to sign him and did not make Parkin select him. What he did was try his best when he was picked for the team. His best was not at the level we required at the time but that wasn't because he shirked his responsibilities. He just wasn't at the necessary standard. I'd happily buy Paul a beer if I bumped into him and hope he's doing well. Leroy Lita stole a wage. He couldn't be bothered. I hate that. And to talk about it like you're proud of it, that you're above somewhere like Barnsley... Words fail me.
To be fair to our fans, despite going 3-0 down at home to Portsmouth, the atmosphere in the second half was red hot. I think the atmosphere on here was toxic going into this season and for the first month or so. It's calmed down now as the results have taken the wind out of many a sail (although I'm well aware that knives are being sharpened in the shadows, waiting for an opportunity). I don't think it's been the same at games. The atmosphere has been a little flat at home games, but despite my optimism for the season, I have to admit the performances have been flat at home. I think they'll get better, but I don't blame anyone if they haven't been jumping about and singing like a loon at Oakwell this season as a lot of the time the performances on the pitch have not been conducive to that. But the atmosphere hasn't been hostile, just a bit flat. Different story away from Oakwell where we've been excellent.
Agree about the town. Its come on leaps and bounds in the 8/9 years since, looks nice in the daytime and is a genuinely good place to go for an evening out now. As for Lita, I thought with him, Keith Treacy and Dale Jennings leading the line we'd absolutely piss the league. How wrong I was. All of them utter wasters, albeit we now know Jennings was suffering with mental health problems. An absolute car crash of a season until Johnson arrived.
