I am of the opinion, but was in a minority last time, that a smaller bridge (like the temporary bridge) is further down the line so that you can cross town, on foot, easier when the Alhambra is closed.

Obviously removing a level crossing does potentially make it easier, but Northern don’t have enough train units to start adding extra services. The Hallam Line probably does have capacity for additional services, but the problems are at Leeds and Sheffield with limited platform space. I doubt we’ll see any extra trains anytime soon.

Pedestrian flows were analysed and forecast as part of the design requirements. You can view the report on pedestrian flows and demand at: https://planningexplorer.barnsley.g...JGFGLU5625UA4FKDA?ApplicationNumber=2021/0131

It’s clear that the highest demand on match days is over a very short period of time, and that paying more to accommodate that demand 100% of the time would be a waste of money.

£12 million staggering for a bridge.

If you think in 1932 they built the Town Hall for £148,697. In todays money equates to roughly £12.7 million. Imagine if they built it now we'd be talking even more silly money especially using the same quality building materials. Bet it would be upwards of £65m

How the f do you know s much about everything to do with anything like this? It's very impressive. Every time I see you post in a thread like this I excited because I know I'm going to learn something new.

Excited is the wrong word but I'm not sure what word to use, you get the idea anyway.

You're not the only one. I've spoken to people offline who think the same (me included).

It gave me a hard on too. We should all whittle spoons out of sycamore and tunnel from the town centre to Oakwell on a Saturday.

Drove past the bridge this afternoon. They were digging up the road in front of the fence where the level crossing used to be. Looks like they may be extending the footpath from the end of the station across to the new car park. As well as being able to walk from the station to the car park on a continuous pavement, there's also the opportunity for people to come over the bridge and walk back towards the railway and turn right to the pelican crossing at the end of Schwabisch Gmund Way crossing over to the bingo hall that way.

Are you sure they aren't digging a tunnel?

Haha! Some might say it’s quite sad, but it’s mostly just a lot of reading - articles, forums, council meetings etc. with a pinch of common sense too!

That bridge cannot carry the same numbers the one in Barnsley can, when YN finally opens it.

The paths were widened on the side the transpennine is on.

I can't really argue with that point to be honest. I thought that the trans Pennine trail was down at the Hoyle mill carpark thing. I didn't realise it was on the other side and came out on Oakwell lane.

My mistake, I'll hold my hands up there. Still wish they'd come up with a way to widen it on the other side though or if they can't then I wish they could widen it even more by narrowing the Oakwell side and then installing a safe crossing area outside the ground.

Feels almost like a new mainline would be a good idea, with brand new stations to relieve pressure at existing bottlenecks like Leeds...
