He's 32. In 1996 we signed John Hendrie as a 33 year old who was instrumental in our promotion to the Premier League!
He had his chance before he opted to join Derby didn’t he? Would still be a decent option from the bench mind, and I’m sure some of our younger players would benefit from his experience,
Hendrie could still play though. If you think we can afford to have one of the midfield basically being motionless but in the team on the off chance he can put a good set piece in, then yeah, sign him up.
I knew this would stir up the debate! Firstly, obviously it's a different game now to what it was 26/7 years ago and fitness levels have increased dramatically with fitness coaches, nutritionists etc.etc. Secondly, FWIW based on his "performance" for DC at Oakwell last season I suggest he's past his best and wouldn't do as good a role for us as he did previously. I mean he was even down the order when they got a free kick on the edge of our box, with David McGoldrick taking the kick.
I get that but I don't think you can compare the two different eras for that reason. The game has changed a lot in the past 25-30 years. I don't think 30+ year olds should necessarily be written off, though.
Yeah that’s fair enough. I think a lot if it depends on the professionalism of the player. You’d imagine someone like Ronaldo could continue into his 40s if he wants to.
In general, it depends on when they started playing professionally. Conor has been playing for 12 seasons and nearly 500 games, so *might* be approaching his bodies limits. He could still have 2-3 years in him, he could be approaching the end of his career.
Did you go to the Derby match at Oakwell last season? Barring one lovely through ball, he was pretty much anonymous. Fair enough he created a goal, but I didn't leave the match thinking how much I'd have wanted him in our midfield.
Was. A no from me. We have brought quite a few players back to the club in my time. And I'm struggling to name more than 1 who pulled any trees up 2nd time around. Hammill the exception And tbh if it wasnt for Hammill. Conor for me would have not progressed to another level. He made him the player he became.
I’m not so sure myself. I love Conor but he doesn’t seem to have the same desire and quality he once had.
