I've not seen it back but said at the time we'd be livid if it was given against us. We were also lucky not to give away a penalty right before the second goal. Mael was giving their strikers shirt a proper tug in the incident where he won the ball and we broke. Also, on another day, Styles would have been sent off for two yellows.

They usually are, one was, against Orient on Saturday and most of us were.
Still a way to go before.... "these things even themselves up"

I think it hits his right elbow which is in an unnatural position. He hardly protested either.

Well must be different one from what I saw, coz it clearly hits his elbow/arm. The only luck part is that’s how the ref saw it as well.

Couldn't tell you whether it's a penalty or not because I don't know the ruling anymore.

But it definitely hits his arm.

Me too. He protects himself because he's going to be hit, which is a daft thing to do when stood in the penalty area on a football pitch, but perfectly understandable as he's human and that's what you naturally do when something comes flying at you.

He knew the ball had hit his arm/elbow as he instinctively looked straight at the ref, in a way to suggest that he hoped the ref hadn't seen it. After he glances at the ref, the ref blows his whistle and points to the spot.

I watched it carefully several times over and I thought it looked as if he moved his arm to elbow it away. Probably a gut reaction to protect himself but he controlled the ball and gained an advantage. I've been wrong before though!

It was strange that the Shrewsbury player just kept trying to win the ball back, and never appealed though, either during or after

Every time I’ve watched it, it looks to clearly come off his elbow.

I don’t think it should have been a penalty but that’s just my issue with the current iteration of the rules - his arm was up in front of him and it hit it. It was at least as much a penalty as the one awarded against us on Saturday, probably more so.

As I say, I’d still sooner those not be given for or against - but if those are the rules, it’s nice to receive one for once rather than they all go against us.

I’m pretty sure it hit his arm and if it did it’s a stonewall penalty for me. His arms might’ve been protecting his body at one point but by the time the ball reached him he’d turned side on and his arms were then away from his body.

As a defender you should never turn side on to a shot or cross. He needed to get his body in the way.
