would that have been moved to a Friday? Just pure speculation but I doubt they'd have messed about with a big time team with many supporters.
Probably be chosen for tv and therefore played when tv told us to play it. Clubs, police, council, FA would have no input. Ain't the modern game great...?
Yes. As annoying as it is, particularly for the Horsham fans, for me there's been absolutely no consideration given to the away side at all, and I don't think that would have been any different had it been Portsmouth. Slightly off topic, but does anyone remember why our 4th round game away at Southend was moved to Friday night in 2008?
I seem to recall that Southend played quite a few home games on a Friday. Wonder if it was to draw in a few extra fans due to the lure of the London clubs?
Last twice we've played Portsmouth has been on a Tuesday night. What's the difference, other than Friday is better cos some won't have to get to work next morning? If there's a replay will it be inconsiderate for reds fans travelling to an evening game? If the fixture had drawn Horsham as the home team and it was moved to Friday for tv, would there have been such an outcry other than reds fans being inconvenienced. Horsham would have been chuffed at the extra cash.
Torquay was our annual holiday destination for a few years when I was younger, used to love the Saturday evening games there.
The Southend game and the Horsham game aren’t really like for like. I don’t think Southend away in the Cup can be considered the biggest game in our history. Neither do I think that had it been on the Saturday or Sunday we’d have planned to take up to 2000 fans (although if I remember correctly, BFC accepted how inconvenient it was and put on free coaches, something Horsham probably cannot afford to do). We’ve played at Southend many, many times. And as far as I’m aware, none of our players have jobs and were due to be working on the Friday, meaning our team was missing players or some classes were missing their teacher. I dare say that if the BFC board contacted Southend to ask why it was being played on the Friday, Southend would have bothered to respond.
I loved the Southend game being a Friday night. Got to spend some time with the Newcastle supporters at Kings Cross on my way home. Great afternoon session. It's a shame I had my suitcase with me. Could have gone to the Emirates. They lost 3-0 so I'm glad I caught them before the game. Never forget the three, free pints of Peroni though. Top lads. Every time I offered to buy them one back they said no chance.
Its something Ive always wondered about as well, at Southend on that Friday night. But J.Campbell Ryce scored a beauty to put us through, and we were the first team into the 5th Round that season.
Yes, when JCR got the ball I said “well you might as well having a go yourself mate, cos nobody is helping you.” Not sure whether he heard me, but I claimed the assist anyway.
