Seems like a Nottingham Panthers player has taken an ice hockey blade to the neck. Horrific scenes, all fans asked to leave the building. Hope the poor guy is OK. Doesn't sound great.

Famously happened to a goalie, Clint Malarchuk. He lost a truly staggering amount of blood but survived, so there's some hope.

News is that it was confirmed by family that Adam Johnson passed away.
Astounding that they don't have slash proof/protecting neck guards.

RIP Adam Johnson. Condolences to all family and friends.
Must have been mightily distressing for all those at the game.

Very sad. You could be forgiven for thinking that they would be protected from this sort of thing with the gear their wearing, but clearly not

Me and the family were there. It was just awful. Will take some getting over for us so goodness knows how his family will feel. Just a horrible, freak accident. RIP Adam x

Someone on the Fev Rovers forum said his Daughter and Son in law went and were in tears and really upsetting, puts things into perspective.

Similar to the cricketer who died a few years ago because of an unprotected area that was struck by a rising ball even though he was wearing a helmet. Led to improvements in the design of protective headgear.

I had friends there both watching and in the game. This is tragic and something no-one is prepared for. Juniors have to wear a neck guard but it doesnt extend as mandatory to the senior pro level. This is a freak ultra rare accident.

The Steelers v Panthers is one of our great sporting rivalries but all fans are united today. All games are cancelled this weekend.

This is heartbreaking. RIP Adam …. Thoughts are with you and your family.

Exactly this. Decided to ‘show ignored content’ to see what was occurring, and that’s a swift reminder as to why I’ve blocked a few on here. Absolutely abhorrent.

Matt Petgrave is a great player but an even better bloke. No-one will be hurting more than him.

I don't follow Hockey so I presume that's the player who caught him? Can't imagine how he must be feeling.

I remember the bloke who bowled the ball that killed the Australian batter mentioned earlier in this thread struggled to come to terms with what happened following that tragic event.

How people can post drivel like that is beyond comprehension.
