    I did one about 5 years ago after being caught doing 45. On the M1!! Fkers.

    They do say before the course that you must be on your own without any distractions.

    Like what? Genuine question, I can't think of anything that I'd have to accelerate out of and break the speed limit compared to just braking.

    A car swerving or spinning towards you, and would clip you if you stopped or stayed same speed. I guess I just like being in control. Or at least to be able to take control if I need to. As I do use cruise control.

    off hand I’d say on the motorway when you are passing someone and still within the speed limit, when the pielark speeds up usually because they have finished what was distracting them and getting in behind them isn’t an option because some other idiot is tailgating you.

    Let them tailgate you, ignore them.

    They tell you on the courses to not check your rear mirror if someone's doing that as it pushes you to speed.

    Fair enough. Have to say though I don't think in that sort of situation I'd have the foresight to speed up, my instinct would be to brake. Also every car I've ever driven with a limiter has a 'button' at the bottom of the accelerator that overrides the limit tbf. so put your foot down and go a bit further and it goes over the limit slightly.

    That sounds like terrible advice. I want to know if someone is too close behind me, not ignore them. It's putting me and anyone in my car at greater risk.

    Sounds unfortunate,while obviously you were at fault I can understand how on a empty road at that time it is easy to lose track of your speed.

    Maybe I didn't phrase it well... what he meant was to not be constantly checking it if it will encourage you to speed up.

    that's good in theory, but when its something big its really worrying, that happened to me a couple of times ( I used to do a lot of motorway miles for work)
    Have to say I have done a speed awareness course, it was very interesting a lot of it stuck and it did improve my driving.

    It encourages me to slow down on single carriageways. I just keep slowing down until they either overtake or drop back to a safe distance.
    It's a real problem on the motorway as when you leave a safe distance someone just fills it.

    If someone is genuinely tailgating you and you slow down, then that is pretty dangerous? I get your reasoning, but it is far safer to maintain your speed and they will get the message and overtake you if they're that bothered.

    If it happens 20 times ,your journey just been extended by 40 seconds.
    Not a lot you can do in 40 seconds ,unless your SD lol.

    I never use limiter on motorways Just cruise control. You can still do whatever you want in a tricky situation.
    My works van was limited to 68, horrible when being tailgated and those inside deciding to go from 50 int middle lane with no restrictions, to 68 matching your speed. (lovely people) Able to do fekk all. Took me a while to get used to it. But tried my utmost to avoid it.

    I just do it very gradually, often without breaking just naturally allowing the car to slow down. If someone was so close that wasn't a option I would just speed off and then immediately pull over if safe to do so.
    I do not think it safer to continue to travel with someone dangerously close and ignore them.
    For me not leaving a safe distance to the car in front is just as bad as speeding. You are choosing to put others lives in danger.
