of the EFL Trevor Birch says its there job to ensure all 72 clubs are treated fairly when commenting on Reading. Mr Birch did you ensure Bury and Macclesfield were treat fairly?
I might be in the minority here. However, I think Football Club finances should be kept separate from owners personal finances and clubs should be ran as businesses. If it were like this there'd be no need for rich oligarchs at all. Their money wouldn't matter. You spend what you can afford. Its up to you to expand to try and drum up more money to compete with the bigger clubs. At least that way the smaller clubs wouldn't die. They'd be competing at their highest level. If they want to expand sign better players, train harder. Be wiser with money etc.
I've been saying for years that all football clubs in each division should have the same budget - set by the League/FA and based on sponsorship deals - with any income from tickets to spend on off-field and talent development. So every club in the Championship has a fixed budget of £15m and every club in League 1 has a fixed budget of £5m per season, etc. (made up figures but you get the idea). I'd rather have the best managers/coaches getting the best out of the players available and anyone able to win promotion and if it means we struggle, then so be it.
I agree there should be some sort of ‘levelling’ out to try to achieve what you’ve put. Just not sure it’s this as it would penalise bigger clubs. I think it should be something like a strictly adhered to % of income/gate receipts or something else. Appreciate its what we are supposed to have now but the reality is the authorities are not enforcing rigorously.
