Wow so it genuinely was the Hume incident then! Glad you're here mate and certainly glad you've made plenty of friends down here

 

Wasn't a fan of Woodstock on Charlie Brown.

 

I was on night shift and saw the Hume incident reported. Thought I’d messageTykes mad with my opinions. Got a bit of grief from certain individuals but never let those imbeciles bother me. Plenty other posters were quite accommodating. One actually invited my along to my first Barnsley game.
Plymouth on a horrible drizzling afternoon. And we never won. But I stuck with it.
Thankfully I did. Met many good guys. Two Wembley winning occasions. Travelled to Germany to support the team. What a trip that was. And managed to visit a few English grounds whilst following the Reds. Done Bradford, Derby, Sheffield Utd, Birmingham. Possibly others I can’t remember.
So it’s all been good.

 

Morgan was an unashamed thug... a few games after he fractured Hume's skull he obviously hadn't learnt how dangerous his actions were, he smashed James Hayter's nose in a game against Donny... somewhere I still have the video on the PC.

 

As I say, my post wasn't excusing Morgan in the slightest, just highlighting how Hume came across in the Undr the Cosh interview.

 

What a loathsome club and bunch of fans, because they took great delight in taking the mick.
And Colin saying he didn't mean it etc, and that Chris isn't that sort of player!.
I will say that Hume was a disappointing waste of money up until then, but it was awful for him to have to suffer that and it negatively affected the rest of his career.
I haven't heard that Cosh interview though, I might look out for that.

 

I have a very good mate from Sheffield who I keep in touch with. Blunt through and through. And at the time said how appalled he was at the incident along with many others. I'm not doubting many were loathsome in their response. But sadly we all have em. IQ of a fish.

 

Of course he didn't, he came out of it with a fractured skull and an ruined career. Let's not victim blame

 

No part of that post was victim blaming.

 

It looked like Morgan and the rest of the Sheffield United team that day had been sent out by Blackwell to assert their dominance using physical thuggery. The late Ugo Ehiogu and James Beattie were also guilty of using their elbows in a similar way, but their blows didn't have such devastating consequences. Brian Howard was on Soccer AM the week before and when asked about Blackwell as a manager had joked about how intense and aggressive he was and how he'd even elbowed the tactics board when addressing the team in the dressing room.

Neil Warnock's comments on the incident were disgraceful, joking that he thought Hume had run on to Morgan's elbow. Radio Sheffield were equally poor. Simon Davey came out with a lot of credit though, as he supported Hume fully and condemned Morgan's actions. I remember it being featured on Look North, who interviewed a sports lawyer and suggested that surely this was a case that ought to go to court.

 

I remember the opening of P&G the following Monday, Think it was Andy Giddens who started by saying it doesn’t look good for Morgan, by the end of the week that show/ programme had almost got Morgan as the victim. The Elbow Morgan threw wasn’t the first or the last that he threw in that game. The ref had been approached by Hulme and others prior to that assault

 

It happened smack in front of me in upper East near half way line - it was DEFINITELY done on purpose.

 

I'm not victim blaming, I'm merely commenting on what I heard in an interview he gave. I, in no way condone what Morgan did, and Hume did at the time, and still does has my greatest sympathy.

 

I wasn't being funny pal, just that it still strikes a chord with me 15 years later. Worst thing I've ever witnessed on a football pitch.
