Does make you wonder where we would be if Duff, Mads, Thomas and Norwood had stayed plus a couple of additions to the squad.

Football is a mess. The finances are disgusting and clubs are spending well beyond their means with little success to show for it. I think it’s beyond a fix tbh.

Barnsley will always be a stepping stone for players. Whether we’re a mid-table Championship team, or a team in League One, players will always see us a way to progress.

I understand people want to see ambition, but if ambition means spending beyond your means and putting the club at risk, I’d rather stay in League One.

I don’t think they’ve just put money in to try and dilute Conway and Lee’s shares. They put money in to continue to have a reasonable bugdet and to be able to push for promotion and also settle the mess Conway/Lee made of the completion of the takeover with the money still outstanding to the Crynes for the sale. Im sure Conway and Lee not subscribing to some of the share issues is a welcome bonus from the rest of the board’s point of view and leaves Neerav in a strong position but I dont think that was the primary driver.

Probably if we’d kept Mads and Kitchen we’d be saying the board have put 15m or 20m in. Norwood wasn’t a financial decison having said that from our point of view. (Obviously it was from his)

Don’t doubt for a minute the money was for budgets etc as you say but as you say a side effect of that is he now has control of the club, all I’m wondering is once he has enough will he carry on or will that change.

You sound like my Dad. He said that. I'm cautiously optimistic.

Why would you buy a football club ? I'm very encouraged thet Neerav Parekh has spent a few millions buying BFC. It is clear that he didn't withdraw following Conway's mismanagement, which being wealthy, would have been easy. In fact, he "got rid" of Conway by clever moves.
Why would he do this if he hadn't "discovered" a strong feeling for the club ?
There's no way he will make money out of BFC and I'm very grateful for that.

Don’t get me wrong I hope he does continue, in the right manner if needed and I have no views if he will or not.

Agree. I think, without significant spending in the summer, this squad, if we were to be promoted this season, would be 'enjoying' a similar season next year to what Wednesday are this year. But we don't have the ability to spend significant money and I don't want us to if it means we put the club at risk.

Purely from a fan entertainment perspective, I'd rather we go up only when we are sufficiently strong so as to storm this league, so we have a chance of pushing on in the Championship. Like Ipswich. If we are to stumble over the line in a very weak L1, with a squad that is nowhere near the quality required for the championship, I think I may prefer to stay in L1 a bit longer because next season would be horrible.

Look at it another way, l started watching around 1984, seven years old - nowt happened, it was crap (having a mid table Championship team :)) no promotion, no relegations, we once thought we was in the play offs and we got a bit giddy. We got excited again in 93 when the East Stand was built and later the ORA, but in general for a school kid it wasn't exciting enough. I'm sure that's why nobody at my school supported them.

Then the unthinkable happened in 1997, 13 years after watching more of the games on the co-op ground than Oakwell and all of a sudden we are on a right rollercoaster:

    1 old Wembley visit
    Millennium stadium
    4 new Wembleys
    4 promotions
    5 relegations
    FA cup semi final
    And a Frimpong.

The kids who didn't support them at school l now see at games with their kids, shirts are all over the place, plenty at my own kids schools. Crowds are up, not only for a few seasons like the early 80s but averages above 10k for years. Coming out of Wembley in May l said to the young un "don't worry about it kid you'll be here plenty of time overs the next 15/20 years, when l was a kid they had to wait 113 years to play here, we're here every other year now".

    They've been very exciting times.

    Nice bit of perspective.

I started in 1974/5. Had to wait till the Clarke / Hunter renaissance 4 years later. IMO the best years in my lifetime, other than the promotion you refer to, that I think no one saw coming under Danny. Overall being a Barnsley fan is rarely dull. My mate in Lisbon, who hails from Kent is a Man Utd fan and is constantly bairning about their lack of success. It's all relative.
