Not one of these strikers are a fraction as good as James Norwood. Terrible recruitment Barnsley

Weird. Isn’t it. We could have just kept him for this season and saved a load of cash.

Unpopular opinion but Norwood ran his blood to water and that was what made him ‘better’. Two of those strikers are technically better than Norwood but because they don’t run as hard, they’re not better in most opinions. Norwood was brilliant for us and loved him at Oakwell but he was always replaceable. It’s Andersen and Kitching irreplaceable for us. De Gevigney, McCart, Shepherd and Lopata can’t lace their boots.

I think it’s the fact that he was actually a better striker that made him better.

Watters will finish the season with more goal involvements than Norwood did last year.

    Cosgrove - 26
    Watters - 24
    Dallas - 24
    Shaw - 25

Meanwhile Norwood is 33, there is no resale value in 33 year olds and that is unfortunately what our owners and recruitment staff look at, Norwood has a good season with us we still wouldn't be able to sell him on. If any of the above have a couple of good seasons we'd be able to sell them and repeat this cycle.

Business wise it makes sense, but football isn't played on paper or behind a desk and I feel like we've made a mistake with the scatter gun approach to lower league signings.

Watters has a goal or assist every two league games.

Norwood every two and half games. Norwood played a lot more football.

    Just an opinion….

Look forward to him getting a combination of 23 goals or assists this season then.

Similar conversation was being had on here about people slating Cole, saying he was lazy and uninterested at times last season for the same reason he wasn’t a Norwood type player.

To be fair the way those are playing they have no resale value either, even though they are younger than Norwood.

Norwood got 15 in the league mate. 11 goals, four assists. Watters is one assist behind and it’s beginning of November.

So 19 goal involvements compared to the 23 we should expect to see from Watters.

He got 15 goal involvements. What’s hard about adding 11 to 4?

    Yep got me there.

Still reckon Watters will finish the season with less than 15 goal involvements.

Norwood was good for us, he has that experience and you know what you're going to get from him.
Its awful as well that he was allowed to go just 2 days before the opening day.
But, did he himself want to go, I'm not sure whether it was the clubs decision or not. And no, we certainly haven't replaced him.

I would say irreplaceable was Andersen and Thomas.

The money that Barnsley wasted on Cosgrove, Watters, Dallas and Shaw could have been used to sign Alfie May.
If he had scored the 12 goals for us instead of Charlton then we would be comfortably top of the league now and nailed on for promotion.

Been a poor start for both Watters and Cosgrove but give either a solid run of games and some decent service and I'm sure they'll come good.
