For me, it was just a bad accident. Quite a few professionals have said the same, and even the Panthers have publicly backed him too.
I dunno, the game being played at the speed that it is and on ice, I don't think anyone who hasn't played it at a reasonable level can express anything approaching a credible opinion.
Just watched video for first time. Surly that'll be hard to explain why he needed to do that I know Ice hockey is a rough sport but do they normally kick each other?? Not watched it since it was on grandstand years ago
Im not sure you needed to have played hockey at a reasonable level to be able to compute what happens on a video. For what it’s worth I don’t think he meant to cause serious damage but he definitely meant to hurt him. Anyway, the CPS will decide on guilt.
It does look bad to people who don't watch the sport (like myself), however if you do watch it regularly and you see people colliding and legs flying about like that then you're surely going to see it for what it is?
The thing is, the movement looks unnatural unless you've seen a lot of how people move around the ice. It's difficult to explain but the way players lose balance on the ice is totally different to how you'd expect or how for example a footballer would lose balance. Their centre of gravity is very different. There was an incident just last week in the NHL where a player was knocked over and both feet went through the air while he was upside down. It gained a bit of traction online because while it was a completely different situation it does dispel the "an ice hockey player never has his feet in the air" nonsense. Also worth mentioning that it's a contact sport. He meant to knock into him, a body check is a massive part of the sport. But I don't for a second think he meant to hit him with his skate/foot.
I want to add some context to this, I have watched a fair amount of Ice Hockey, I used to skate as a teenager and began training to play Ice Hockey around the same time. IMHO that wasn't a hockey move, or a skating move. We all have differing opinions on this obviously, so the CPS will make the correct decision based on the evidence. It does need to be noted that the player in question does have a fairly poor record for injuring opponents.
