Saw Jacob warming up at the side of the pitch last night here in Tbilisi - hadn’t realised he was Scottish or that Halifax was in Scotland. He didn’t get subbed on though. Scotland were a bit like the Reds with their sideways and backwards passes, though woke up when Georgia scored!
Bit like Devante, born in Alderley Edge with an England International as a Father, playing for Jamaica.
Fantastic player for us. Have only fond memories of him and can only wish him the best of luck for his career.
Yes but don’t think Wullie ever had a surname. Bit like the Broon twins or the Bairn. Never had names.
Just shows what a joke the Intl rule is now, where players can choose which country they want to play for. At least Jack didn't pretend to be something that he wasn't. Even though he managed Rep O' Ireland, he was always English!.
Mick McCarthy was born in Tarn. Played for & was probably the best manager of the Republic of Ireland, Ever, Is he Irish? Ask that in Dublin or Cork.
He's born in England/Yorkshire/Barnsley, so thats not Irish to me at all lol. I can maybe understand them extending it to the parents, like Haaland for example, as well as Jacob Brown. Hes chose to represent his dads country Norway, but it really shouldn't go further 'back' than that.
What is your view on. Owen Hargreaves and Raheem Sterling plus many others. That play/played for England. Born outside the country. As for Jack you could also say the the same for Eriksson and Capello.
Jack Charlton epitomised this way back in Euro ‘88 with Ray Houghton. Born in Glasgow, raised in London. The, then, Republic of Ireland manager justified his selection by saying ‘his Grandfather once owned an Irish Setter, so he qualifies’.
Hey I didn't pick them (Sterling & Hargreaves) for England did I. I like the bit on Mike Bassett, where they meet in the airport, and the Irish get called the England B team lol.
