Atkinson wasn't great but he was the only one who actually looked like he wanted to be there. Votes for anyone else who started would be comical. Surely whoever has recruited this shambolic, weak non-league group of centre backs (and that includes McCarthorse, Slowpata and De Giveagoalaway) has to have been given their P45(s) tonight.
I think Mael is an excellent signing. It's just a shame he's been thrown in with a group of inexperienced youthful players playing besides him
And your view is every bit as valid as mine. However, I just don’t see that he’s that good defensively. I see him backing off and backing off and then turning his back on shots, such as when the lad at Exeter hit the post. I see him shirking marking duties and giving free headers at set pieces, such as when the other lad at Exeter hit the woodwork in the last minute. I see him make impetuous rash challenges. I see him frequently out of position and opposing strikers getting in behind. I see him unilaterally playing offside and getting caught, as with Horsham’s third goal. I see him get schooled and give free kicks away in challenges by experienced forwards. I don’t see him as physically up to this division and the second half at Derby could be a sign of things to come as surely any opposition coach with nous is going to play the ball forward quickly into the soft heart of our defence.
The big difference between when he was getting man of the match every week to derby was he got moved to RCB instead of in the middle. On the ball that changes everything, gives him so many less options, he should have stayed in the middle. I don't agree with you on everything, but certainly agree with you on not being good in the air and barely winning headers mate - it's why I wanted Lopata back soon. We can't seem to win anything in the air at the back (anywhere really...), but Mael at the side of someone who can do more of the physical work, I think would work perfectly (given time!). Not sure Collins will be able to get this right though
Maybe that's part of the issue: Jordan Williams was the man who played Horsham onside for their 3rd goal, JW, unfortunately was not following the play....
Luca Connell at least showed at times that he was a professional footballer. More than most of his teammates managed.
